The 13th of March 2024 was the first NLC Battle of the Bands event since lockdown.\u00a0 The staff and students of Brannock worked very hard to present a rock band for the event.\u00a0 The band only had a few weeks to learn two songs to perform, \u201cNo One Knows\u201d by Queens of the Stone Age and \u201cYou Are Mine\u201d by the Arctic Monkeys.<\/p>\n

The Brannock band was called Static Foreground<\/em>, and the players were C. Smyth<\/strong> on vocals, A. Mullen<\/strong> on the drums, N. Timmins<\/strong> on the guitar, and J. McCrory<\/strong> on the bass.\u00a0 (We also lent our M. Carson<\/strong> to play drums for fellow school Bellshill Academy).<\/p>\n

The event was at the Cumbernauld Theatre at Lanternhouse, which was an intimate venue of just under 300 seats (tickets were limited and the place was packed out!). The acoustics, seats and staging were fantastic.\u00a0 There was even a smoke machine that was on the entire time (cough, cough).\u00a0 There were 10 bands that successfully auditioned for the event from across North Lanarkshire.\u00a0 Our amazing school represented the smallest of all the schools (a real David and Goliath situation).<\/p>\n

Our band, Static Foreground<\/em>, had performed excellently on the night of the event.\u00a0 They were on after the interval and was therefore the seventh band to perform.\u00a0 When they started their set, they lifted the energy of the event in a massive way that really set the bar high for the bands that followed.\u00a0 Our C. Smyth was easily one of the best vocalists of the night.\u00a0 N. Timmins and J. McCrory played flawlessly and had good energy and fantastic tone.\u00a0 However, it was A. Mullen that really stole the show<\/em> \u2026<\/p>\n

A. Mullen won the best musician of the night award!!!\u00a0 <\/strong>This award comes with a financial gift for our Music Department.\u00a0 Bear-in-mind that there were around fifty S3-6 students that represented some of the best musicians in all the schools of North Lanarkshire \u2013 and it was our A. Mullen that shocked the judges with an outstanding performance.<\/p>\n
