12 FEBRUARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

Helping your child with S2\/3 subject choices – support for parents and\u00a0carers\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is offering parents and carers an online opportunity to find out more about how they can help their child\u00a0make their S2\/3 subject choices for the Senior Phase.\u00a0Scotland\u2019s national skills agency has organised\u00a0the\u00a0virtual session\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday 25 Februar<\/u><\/strong>y\u00a0which will also give parents and carers information\u00a0about accessing\u00a0a wide range of\u00a0SDS support.<\/p>\n

Careers advisers Joan Duncan and Gemma Smith will be providing expert advice for parents and carers of young people in S2 and S3.<\/p>\n

Joan\u00a0said: \u201cThinking about what options to choose at school can be\u00a0daunting for young people and their parents and carers.\u00a0As well as this session, SDS\u00a0also has a\u00a0Subject\u202fChoices\u202ftool<\/a>\u202fon SDS\u2019s My World of Work website\u00a0which helps\u00a0pupils explore\u00a0where options choices can take them.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gives young people and their parents and carers the opportunity to explore job profiles, industries,\u00a0Foundation and Modern Apprenticeships, refine their search by what someone is most interested\u00a0in and use the tool as many times as they like to find out more about different options.\u00a0There are other tools to try and the more tools you try, the better career suggestions we can give.\u201d<\/p>\n

This virtual event, which is from 6.30pm until 7.15pm, will also have a\u00a0question and answer\u00a0session.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

29 JANUARY<\/strong><\/p>\n

As schools across Scotland are closed to the majority of pupils, Skills Development Scotland Careers Advisers will continue to provide careers information and advice by phone and digitally.\u00a0Our Advisers will contact pupils who were scheduled to have a face-to-face appointments to make alternative arrangements.<\/p>\n

Subject Choices<\/b><\/p>\n

If your child is choosing their subjects, their school careers officer\u00a0will be available, if required, to provide support over the coming weeks to help them think about their choices, including a one-to-one conversation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>You can contact our Careers Adviser, James Corry on 07785 517 204<\/strong> or james.corry@sds.co.uk<\/a> to arrange this.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s also the opportunity for you \u2013 as a parent or carer \u2013 to join the conversation and discuss where their options might take them in the future. \u00a0As current government guidelines don\u2019t permit these conversations to take place in person, we\u2019ll seek to make alternative arrangements by phone or video conference.\u00a0You\u2019ll also find lots of helpful tools and information to help with subject choices, on the careers service website, My World of Work<\/a><\/p>\n
