This is typically from the original idea (design, layout and typography) through to reproduction, finishing and distribution of two or three-dimensional products. The course covers the use of technical graphics in education, construction, industry and commerce and offers students the opportunity to communicate in what is effectively an international language.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This course involves:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Technical drawing (2-D &amp; 3-D)<\/li>\n<li>Freehand sketching<\/li>\n<li>Rendering (pencil, marker &amp; pastel)<\/li>\n<li>Computer aided drawing<\/li>\n<li>3-D modeling<\/li>\n<li>Desktop publishing<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge &amp; Interpretation<\/li>\n<li>Colour theory, BSI symbols<\/li>\n<li>Hardware &amp; Software<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Recommended Entry<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students would normally be expected to have attained one of the following:<\/p>\n<p>For S4 Entry<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pass the S3 Graphic Communication course<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For S5\/6 Entry (National 5 ONLY)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pass the National 4 course<\/li>\n<li>Pass the National 5 course with a grade &#8220;C&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mandatory Units: National 4 &amp; 5<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-D Graphic Communication<\/li>\n<li>3-D &amp; Pictorial Graphic Communication<\/li>\n<li>Added Value Unit: Graphic Communication Assignment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Units are no longer compulsory\u00a0at National 5 level however students studying National 5 will still have to sit an external exam &amp; complete the\u00a0 assignment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>National 4 pupils must complete all three units to gain an overall National 4 course award.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Next steps<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After successfully completing the course students will be able to undertake:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graphic Communication (Higher)<\/li>\n<li>Design &amp; Manufacture (National 4 &amp; National 5)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Skills &amp; Knowledge<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Producing preliminary, production &amp; presentation graphics in familiar contexts<\/li>\n<li>Spatial awareness in familiar 2D, 3D &amp; pictorial situations<\/li>\n<li>Applying design skills, including creativity, when developing solutions to design tasks<\/li>\n<li>Using standard graphic communication equipment, software &amp; materials effectively<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of the impact of graphic communication technologies in our environment and society<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of computer-aider graphics techniques<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of colour, illustration and presentation techniques.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Careers &amp; Further Study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s modern day technological society is developing and changing at an almost unbelievable rate.<\/p>\n<p>Studying Graphic Communication could lead to a career in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Architecture<\/li>\n<li>Graphic Design<\/li>\n<li>Civil Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Product Design<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Modern Apprenticeship<\/li>\n<li>CAD Technician<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Course Intro As the name suggests graphic communication is the process of creating, producing and distributing resources, using words and images as well as a variety of different mediums to express data, concepts or emotions.
