A huge part of our Reading Schools work is to involve our cluster primary schools in our love of reading.<\/p>\n

Therefore, we invited each P7 class from our local primary schools to attend two special Reading Schools transition visits in the library – one in the first term and another in the second term.<\/p>\n

Each class was tasked with brain storming why it is healthy, positive and essential that we all read for pleasure. In the library pupils were organised into groups, were inspired by our S1 literacy ambassadors who spoke passionately about why they read for pleasure, and then in their groups created spider diagrams detailing all of the positive reasons why we should read.<\/p>\n

These spider diagrams were taken back to their primary classrooms and over the ensuing weeks our Primary Transition teacher, Mrs Anderson, helped the pupils create a poster and short presentation on ‘Why We Should Read’.<\/p>\n

The P7 pupils then returned to the library for their second transition visit where they presented their posters. Our S1 literacy ambassadors and creative practitioner, Art teacher Miss Galloway, judged the groups on the merits of their poster design and presentation content.<\/p>\n

The winning group from each class received an Easter Egg and pencil. Whilst all P7 pupils received a free Horrible Science book and Braidhurst bookmark to celebrate the completion of the visits and to embed a culture of reading within their lives.<\/p>\n
