Senior pupils took part in a Digital Day workshop with Glasgow digital agency Equator. Pupils learned about what happens in a typical day in the digital industry and examples of work that Equator have completed for big companies. Pupils then carried out a task to develop a solution to problems set by sponsors Wimbledon, Micro:Bit and EPAM Systems. Pupils had very innovative ideas and the jusdges were impressed. Congratulations to the winning team of Lewis Stewart, Keesha Small, Jennifer Robertson, A-Jay McGraw and Blaire Williams-Alba!
Thank you to all the Parents who volunteered to help in the production of We Will Rock You.
Mrs Campbell and Mrs Stewart spent last night seeing Dalzeil high School’s production and are excited to get started of the Bellshill Academy production!
The Art & Design Department’s Transition Project has now launched!!
Miss Arrol and Mrs Higgins welcomed P7 pupils from Lawmuir for the first time on Thursday 3rd October to begin their Pop Art inspired murals.
Our Duke of Edinburgh groups volunteering for their Bronze award.
The pupils have been volunteering their time:
Mossend Primary – running cooking classes with P7 pupils
Lawmuir Primary – assisting in classes and doing one-to-one support.
Bellshill Academy – maintaining the sensory garden and painting wall displays around the school grounds.
Introducing the 2019-20 Eco group – senior members.
The pupils are currently planning the clothes recycling event that will take place in November – pupils and staff are encouraged to gather any unwanted, old clothes to donate and recycle in their Pupil Support house bin in the school foyer.
The group will then move on and plan the Christmas card recycling competition. They will also help maintain the sensory garden.
The pupils below have achieved their:
Bikeability 1 certificate – introductory cycling skills around the school grounds.
Bikeability 2 certificate – advanced cycling skills on the roads around Bellshill Academy.
S1 Bikeability Pupils 2019:
Stephen Hutton
Stuart Aikman
Alexander Forsyth
Ciaran Wotherspoon
Rhys McCall
Mikaela Harris
Billy Beaton
Ryan – did not achieve the certificates this year as he has never ridden a bike before the course. He however achieved personal triumphs – learning to balance and pedal in a short space of time. He will achieve his certificates in the near future.
Harry – P6 pupil joined us from Mossend Primary and represented his school positively.
All pupils focused, worked hard and demonstrated the new skills they learned during the programme in their final showcase. The pupils are now ready to cycle on the streets safely and confidently, benefitting their personal health and well-being and the safety of drivers around them.
Kyle in S3 – was an excellent mentor for the group, helping to build the S1 pupils confidence.
S3 and S5/6 pupils carried out a river study along the river to build on the content they have been learning about in the National 3 and Higher Geography courses. They got their waterproofs on and got into the river – measuring the speed, width and depth of the river and they investigated the animal life and river bed material. Both year groups enjoyed their trips – fresh air, teamwork and hands on learning experiences.
World of Norm books are flying off the library shelves after the S1 author visit last week from Jonathan Meres. What a energetic and lively presentation – pupils loved it!
