Our Visit to Blairhouse Carehome

Today our class walked (in the rain!) to visit the residents of Blairhouse Carehome. We have been learning about care of the elderly in our community and so we thought it would be nice to visit our local carehome. We took the recycled hanging baskets we made and we entertained the residents with three songs. It made us all feel proud to have brought a little cheer to the residents on such a dreicht day. As a special surprise for one of the ladies, Winnie, Liam brought in a birthday cake and we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her. She was really pleased. Karen, who works in the carehome said we were a fantastic class and she gave us sweets and juice as a thank you. It was a great visit and we all would like to visit our friends there again.

Special Visitors

This morning we had two special visitors in our class. Andy and Elizabeth from Scripture Union joined our RE lesson . They were very impressed as they saw us reading our class bibles when we were studying the story of the Miracle of the Loaves and the Fishes. They enjoyed the very peaceful and reflective prayer service we also had. We hope they enjoyed visiting our class

Maths in real life

In maths this week, we are counting very large amounts of objects. Some of us are counting up to 100 and some of us are counting more than 100. We had a maths challenge today where we were stock taking just as shopkeepers have to do in real shops. We worked in pairs and we checked each others counting. We found out that an amount stays the same no matter who counts it, how fast or slow you count it or if you put the objects into a different container. We all think we would be great at stock taking in a real shop.

Our Posters

Yesterday we found some litter, some vandalism and even a broken tree. We decided to make some posters to tell people about the problem and to encourage them to stop. Here are some examples of our work.

Jade wanted people to stop dropping litter.
Lauren wanted to do something about the destroyed tree.

Litter and Vandalism Survey

We went on a tour all around the school to see all the litter that has been dropped and to look for any evidence of vandalism. We were shocked at all the litter and spraypaint but worst of all we were very upset when we saw a broken fruit tree that we had planted last year. We want to do something about this.

Computer Time

We have been very busy using the new computers in the Computer room. We used them to import photos which we took on our Townhead tour and we made posters with lots of information about the clubs and services you can get in Townhead. We also used the computers to practice our spelling by changing the colour, size and type of font. We think the new computers are brilliant.

Townhead Tour

Yesterday, as part of our topic about our community, we went for a walk around Townhead to take notes and photos about the various community groups and services that there are in Townhead. We saw the clinic, the community cente, Townhead parish church hall, St Bartholomew’s Church hall and our own school. We walked for a long time but it was worth it because we found out lots of good information. We are going to use this information to write a brochure all about Townhead.
