Mr Young’s Visit

visit 2 001visit 2 005visit 2 006posters 002Today was a very special day for Pr4. Mr Young has heard some very good things about our class recently so we invited him to see some of our good work. We were practicing our ballskills in PE and we had great fun doing a dice challenge with a partner in maths. We also used a 100 square to practice our mental addition and subtraction strategies. After playtime, we went on a vitual tour of a jewish synagogue and we got a chance to try on a real prayer shawl (tallit) and a skull cap(kippur). Then we wrote about our vitual tour as a recount. Mr Young was amazed at how much we know about Judaism and he told us what he knew about the prayer shawl too. In the afternoon, we used the i-pads to practice our spelling and we got a chance to have a discussion time with Mr Young. It was a great chance for us to share our views with him. Later we used the notes we made earlier this week to work co-operatively with others to produce some fabulous information posters about The Human Skeleton. We hoped Mr Young enjoyed our busy day as much as we did.Mr Young's visit 004Mr Young's visit 001Mr Young's visit 008Mr Young's visit 010Mr Young's visit 012Mr Young's visit 013Mr Young's visit 015

The Human Skeleton

This week in science, we are learning about the human skeleton. We made a factfile using books and the internet as a source of information. Then we made our first two slides of our powerpoints about the human body. In art, we used chalk and black paper to recreate anotomically correct skeleton pictures. We have some great resources in class, including a model skeleton which are all helping us to learn about what is inside our own bodies.Skeleton work 001Skeleton work 002Skeleton work 003Skeleton work 004Skeleton work 006

Our Solar System Assembly

Mrs O’Neill was extemely proud of us this afternoon when we had our Solar System Assembly. We performed our presentation for all the classes in the morning then our invited guests came along in the afternoon. We really ejoyed sharing what we had learned with our friends and families and it was lovely to relax with a cup of tea/juice and a cake afterwards.

We asked our visitors to leave some feedback about our event and people were very complimentary!

I was very impressed with Pr4’s assembly today. They all sounded brilliant and their dancing was great.

I liked everything about the assembly- the kids all sang the songs brilliant. It was enjoyable and educational.

The children all worked really hard. It was very interesting.

The assembly was well done, easy to follow and enjoyable- I loved it.

Assembly Preparation

This morning we practiced our assembly. It’s sounding great but we hope our powerpoint doesn’t freeze on the day! We also decorated space-themed cakes for our visitors. It’s going to be a great event!

Mrs O’Neill put on her wellies and we all went out to build a snowman. We had a brilliant time modelling all the new snow.snow day 001 snow day 003snow day 006snow day 008

National Breakfast Day

Today lots of us brought our breakfast into school to eat in class. We had a variety of healthy options.

Luca had mixed fruit, Aimie had a boiled egg, Stella had yoghurt, Annie had toast and lots of people had cereal with a healthy splash of milk.

We enjoyed this so much we’d like to bring our breakfast into school again.National Breakfast week 001National Breakfast week 002National Breakfast week 003National Breakfast week 004

Judaism

This week in RE we are learning about another world religion, Judaism. We have been researching about the Jewish religion on the internet and have watched a video clip which showed us a virtual tour of a synaguoge. Today we learned to sing a jewish shabbat blessing and we even wrote our blessings on our own torah scrolls.

(Also we have included a sneak preview of our class assembly for Friday)

Super Science Centre Visit

Today we had a fantastic visit to the Glasgow Science Centre. Our visit to the planetarium was literally out of this world and we were really pleased with how many questions we could answer about space already. The animation about the planets really brought all we have learned to life and we learned how to find the North Star in the night sky. Maybe we’ll use some of these ideas in our class assembly next week….

We also had time to explore The Body Works exhibition. It was a great way to spark our intrest in human biology and now we have many things we want to explore and find out about in our new Human Body topic. We hope you enjoy some of the great photos we took.

Science Centre Trip

We are really looking forward to going to the Science Centre in Glasgow tomorrow. We will be visiting the planitarium as part of our Space topic and will be going to the Body works exhibition to begin our new science topic about The Human Body. We hope to have lots of photos from our visit on our Blog tomorrow.

Space Topic

Primary 4 have been researching all about our solar system. We have used some great websites, facinating factual books and amazing models to find out about the eight planets which make up our solar system. We’ve also been working in pairs to produce information booklets to share with our friends. We watched live events in space about the Rosetta space mission and we found out about the Filae sace probe which successfully landed on the 67P comet. We also shared our knowledge with our families when we made some models of the robot probes at home. At art time, we recreated lunar landscape using mixed media. Next time you meet a Pr4, ask them to sing our solar system song- you’ll be amazed how much you learn from the lyrics!

Amazing Artwork

Over a few sessions, we have been looking closely at some of the photos we took on our tour of Townhead. We used these to draw some very detailed drawings of these buildings. We concentrated on line and pattern. We sketched with pencil first then used fine black pens to outline and highlight the details. Today we had an assessment session where we had an opportunity to go on a compliments walk to see everyone else’s work. Then we each did a self assessment before we swapped work to peer assess someone else’s work. We were very proud of our work and Mr Young asked us if we would display some of our work in the main foyer when the electrics were complete. Watch out for some photos of our work soon.
