Today we were with the sports leaders and they played lots of games with us. It was great fun and we were exhausted.

We were doing an investigation and we were trying to find out if we could identify the sound just by using our ears. We covered our eyes with a lindfold and then we listened to the sound and tried to guess it. We found that our hearing is very good. We did not need our other senses. By Annie and Jennifer
Today we were learning how to find our blind spot. You had to close your left eye and look at the apple on the paper and the carrot. Slolwy we had to move the sheet towards you and stop when the carrot vanishes. You wil find the blind spot. We found out that no one has the same blind spot.
We have been learning about how our eyes work. In a dark room our pupils are big but in the bright light your pupils are small. Our eyes see everything upside down but our brain turns it the right way up.
Last week we began the very important job of preparing for our First Holy Communion. Twenty two children from Pr4 and Pr4/5 are working together to learn about the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. We are learning about the seven sacraments and their symbols. Today we learned that the sacraments are an outward sign that we are receiving God’s grace. We pray that we can work both at home and at school to prepare as best as we can for this important part of our journey of faith.
Today the Faith in Action Group organised a fundraising event that not only raised money for SCIAF but made us think about the unfairness og the distribution of wealth in our world. We bought a ticket for 50p but only 8 people had their tickets picked out as ‘RICH’-they got a chocolate bar and a fruit drink. The rest of us were ‘POOR’ and only got a rice cake and a drink of water. £47 was raised for SCIAF so well done all who participated.
This week we are learning about lungs and the respiritory system. We made a factfile by using the internet and information books and we watched a very informative video clip which showed the journey of air through the body’s respiritory system. We found out that the body needs oxygen to convert food into energy. We also found out that we breathe in oxygen but we breathe out carbon-dioxide. We found out that plants and trees take in the carbon-dioxide to make oxygen for us to breathe so we now understand why it is so important that the human race takes care of all the plants and trees. The most facinating fact we discovered was that each person breathes an amazing 23,000 breaths each day! We rounded off the lesson with a fun song and dance session where we sang alternative words to One Direction’s We were young called We’re the Lungs! We plan to use the information we’ve gathered today to write a report about the lungs during our taught writing lesson on Wednesday.
Today we were real scientists in class when we were using real anatomical models. We found out that the correct name for the middle part of the human body is the torso and we were able to explore and position the organs. We all enjoyed using the models but it was tricky to put all the organs in the correct way, in the correct order. After we’d finished, we had a review session with some WAC writing and evaluation post-its. Here are some of our thoughts about the activity:
It was easy to put the organs in the right way- Neve and Chloe
We learned more about where everything goes- Annie and Patrick
It was hard to put all the stuff back in the body- Carly, Oscar and Ally
Putting the parts together was like a jigsaw- Stephen, Des and Stephen
This week we are celebrating Catholic Education Week. The theme this year is Proclaiming the Joy of the gospel. We have been to church twice this week; on Sunday we celebrated mass with our families ans school friends and today our school community received our ashes in St Bartholomew’s church to mark the beginning of Lent. In class we have watched some video clips about Pope Francis’ message of how to be joyful and we used this as inspiration to write some acrostic poems for J-O-Y. We even sang the J-O-Y song to remind ourselves about caring about God and others before ourselves. We’re planning our class display for the foyer and are planning to work togethet on it starting this week.
Today we are all wearing red to support the work of the British Heart Foundation. We hope our donations to this charity help people with heart problems.
Over the next few weeks, we will be finding out about the human heart so this is a great charity for us to support. Thanks Faith in Action Pupil Group for organising the event.
