This week in RE we are learning about the leader of the Catholic church, the Pope. We found out that the Pope is God’s representative on Earth and Jesus chose the first pope, Simon Peter. Jesus said Peter,” You are the rock on which I will build my church”.
In our research, we have found out some facts about our current pope, Pope Francis.
Pope Francis is the current Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born in 1936 and he comes from Argentina. In March 2013 he was elected Pope and chose the name Francis in honour of Saint Francis of Assissi. Pope Francis is the 266th pope but the first Francis. He is also the first pope to come from the Americas, and the first pope to come from the Southern Hemisphere.
