St Bartholomew's Nursery

We are learning how to hold a pencil properly. This is helping us to try to write some of the sounds we know. We are doing lots of practice and our letters look great.

We had lots of friends and families who came along to our Active families gym class this week. We showed everyone how we do our warm up, our cool down and we showed everyone how to play some games which show we know about how to be safe with harmful liquids. all of our visitors were very impressed and we hope to invite them to see more of our fabulous work soon.

This week we have been having fun learning how to write some letters. We used chalk to write really colourful letter in our playground.

We had a visit from Rebecca who works at Zoo Lab on Tuesday. She brought lots of interesting animals for us to meet and she told us some fascinating facts about them. Did you know that most mini-beasts have no bones? Did you know that cockroaches can survive for a year in a freezer? Did you know that Giant African snails have more than 10,000 teeth? We even got to handle some of the animals. It was really interesting and we are looking forward to finding out more about mini-beasts when we start our new topic.

We have been studying the size of objects in nursery recently. This week, we looked to put objects into the correct container by studying the different qualities of our objects. Some objects were tall, some were wide and others were inbetween! Have a look at how we got on!

We have also been looking at the properties of water. We found out that water can be a liquid, it can be heated up to make steam and can even be frozen into a solid! Wow!

Finally, we look forward to seeing all the mums, dads and anyone else who would like to come along to our ‘Active Families’ session tomorrow. You can find out what time your child will be taking part by having a look at our nursery notice board. It should be a lot of fun!

We have been learning to describe objects in different ways recently. This week, we focussed on using the words “heavy” or “light” to describe the weight of objects. We decided to conduct a test using a container of water to decide whether an object was heavy or whether it was light. If an object was heavy, it would sink! If it was light, it would float!

As part of our topic about water, we are learning about harmful liquids which might be in our house but we mustn’t touch. The teachers showed us lots of bottles and liquids we might has seen and we were able to sort them into safe and unsafe. We have been learning that medicines can make us better if we are ill but only adults are allowed to touch them.

What a strange sight there was in Nursery on Friday. To raise funds for our nursery, lots of us wore crazy hairstyles for the day. Can you recognize some of us?

We had a visit today from a lady from ABC Music to show us some new ways to use this great resource. We had fun listening closely to the music and moving in the way it suggested. We especially enjoyed being little butterflies and big monsters.

We had great fun in the gym hall when we were doing some fabulous Active Families Activities. We are learning about water so all our activities had a water theme. We really enjoyed the game where we pretended to be bottles and had to run when we were full, empty or half full of water. We are looking forward to more water games in our next session.
