In nursery, we have been learning all about sorting. We have been putting items into groups and following rules when we do so. This week, we have looked to sort our teddy bears into groups according to their colour. Have a look at our hard work!

We’ve only had our caterpillars for a week but already they’ve doubled in size. Like the Very Hungry Caterpillar they spend all their time eating, and eating and eating! If we look at them with the magnifying glass, we can see there little feet and we can see their jaws constantly munching. They are also starting to spin some silvery threads so we don’t think it will be too long before they start to build their cocoons.
Today we went on a lovely walk to find any signs of spring. We stopped to listen to the birds singing and everyone agreed that it’s beginning to feel a little warmer in the sunshine. Lots of the plants and trees we spotted are showing signs that they are starting to grow again after a long cold winter.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been helping us to learn to write from left to right on the page. We have been having fun following his trails to reach some tasty food to munch.
There was great excitement in our nursery today when the postman brought a very special delivery- five real life very hungry caterpillars! The five Painted Lady caterpillars will be living and growing in our nursery for the next few weeks so we will be able to find out first hand about the life cycle of a butterfly. We are going to record how they change each day and we will be writing and drawing about what we find out. We are also going to use our research skills to find out some information about butterflies from books and websites.
We have started to learn about time in nursery. This week, we were talking about routines in our nursery and how to put events in order. Have a look!
We are starting a new topic this week based around the fabulous book called The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We are using this book to help us with lots of our learning. This week after hearing the story, we have been doing lots of activities about symmetry and have been counting on and back from 10, just like the Hungry Caterpillar. We hope to share lots of our learning with you over the next few weeks.
We are learning how to hold a pencil properly. This is helping us to try to write some of the sounds we know. We are doing lots of practice and our letters look great.
