Fruit Patterns

We have been looking very carefully at fruit this week. We noticed that, when you look at the inside of a fruit, the colours, lines and shapes all combine to make up a pattern. We worked hard to try and create some fruit patterns of our own!

Learning to write

This week in literacy, we have been practicing the skill of overwriting. We have to start on the dot and try to follow the ditted lines to help us to practice writing the letters. It is quite tricky but because we are using wipeable boards, we can keep practicing until we are happy with our writing.

Transport

We are starting a new topic all about transport. This week we have been making 3-D models of vehicles and are programming our BeeBots so we can talk about how they can move. We are also bringing home some car-shaped cards to discuss with our families what we would like to find out about in this topic. Remember to bring yours back to nursery so we can try to include your ideas and questions in our work.

Activity Time

This week in nursery, we have begun an exciting new initiative. Everyday, we are working in groups with a different teacher and are rotating to work on activities such as music, PATHS, physical time, 3-read story time and skill development. We are enjoying working with every teacher and getting the chance to be involved in so many activities each week.

A Huge Thank You!

Thank you so much to everyone who made the Nursery Karaoke Fundraiser such an outstanding success. We raised a magnificent £2329.30, which will be used to take our children to Wellfield Farm in May. A particular thank you must go to our fabulous parent committee who really pulled out all the stops to make the event the wonderful event it was. The committee are invited to a meeting on Thursday 28th for some thank you tea and cake. Below are some of the many positive pieces of feedback we got on the night.

Our Beautiful Butterflies!

What a wonderful surprise when we came into nursery this week to find that our butterflies had broken out of their cocoons and were now stretching out their lovely wings to fly around their enclosure. We have been watching them as they feed on oranges and now it’s time to release them. Mrs Higgins is going to release them tomorrow into the countryside near were she lives. We have enjoyed watching our caterpillars change into butterflies.

When we sort

The children continue to study sorting in our nursery. This week, we had to sort out some diamonds and gold coins from a special treasure chest! We noticed that when you sort items into groups, the items in a group must be similar in some way. What great work from everyone!

Writing our names

This week we are starting to learn an important skill in literacy. We are learning to write our own names. We have to look very closely at the letters. First we are learning to write over our name to practice. Then we are trying to write over the dots. Some of us are even able to copy the letters which make up our name. It is tricky but with lots of practice we are getting better and better at it.

Cocoon Update

IMG_2886Our cocoons have now been transferred into the special pop up enclosure they have. Now all we have to do is to be patient and wait for some butterflies to emerge.
