Remembering
- Where and when did the story take place?
- Who are the main characters?
- What does the main character look like?
- How does the book end?
- How does the book begin?
Understanding
- What did the title have to do with the book?
- What is the book about?
- Can you pretend you are one of the characters in the book and write a diary entry?
- Did anyone in the book do something you did not like? Why?
- What kind of book is this? Can you list three reasons why you know this?
- Which part do you like best? Why?
Applying
- Did this book give you any ideas about yourself? Why?
- What lesson did you learn from the story?
- Can you think of another story character similar to a character in this book?
- What would the main character be likely to do if she/he visited your classroom?
- Can you think of another book with a similar theme?
- Can you think of another story character similar to a character in this book?
- Have you had any similar experiences?
Analysing
- If your story happened long ago, can you compare that time with today?
- What motive did the main character have for behaving in the way they did?
- What is the relationship between the main characters?
- Can you find three words that describes a character in the book very well?
- Can you compare this book the last book you read?
- What is the saddest, most exciting or funniest part of the story? Why?
- What is your favourite part & why?
Evaluating
- Which parts of the text could be improved? How?
- Can you write another short story using the same characters?
- Did the book have an effective ending? In what way?
- Do you agree with the actions of the main character?
- Can you organise this book into 3 or more sections and give your own subtitle for each?
- Which Character would you most like to be a friend? Why?
- Choose a character, were they good or bad? provide evidence.
Creating
- What would the best part of the book to illustrate? could you draw it
- Write a podcast advert for the book, record it
- Create a new character for the story, what are they like, what would they do?
- Create a Different ending for the story.
