Growth Mindset – Halloween Cauldrons!

Primary 4/5/6 have been with working with chalk and oil pastels recently. They have been able to blend a range of bright and vibrant colours to create a wall display of ‘Growth Mindset Cauldrons’ – just in time for Halloween! In Primary 4/5/6, we know how important it is to encourage one another and to believe in everyone, we believe that everyone can do their best! To promote this within the classroom, we created a selection of cauldrons – choosing all different shapes and sizes, to encourage everyone to try their best and to never give up. We can use this wall when we are completing a task, in order to understand and always know that we can do it – no matter what!

Some positive growth mindset statements chosen by P4/5/6 were…

Keep going!

Don’t give up!

Go for it!

I can do this!

Believe in yourself!

and many more!

Go Green at Banton!

Banton Buddies had lots of fun during their learning on Friday! In the morning, Primary 4/5/6 headed out to clean up our school grounds by collecting as much litter as they could! The class did extremely well, and managed to find a variety of items – from crisp packets to ice cream tub lids! We worked in pairs to help one an other and were then able to discuss what each other had found!

We also contributed to our ‘Tree of Promises’ within our school in relation to COP26. We each created a leaf using a template – on the leaf, we created promises that can help the world that we live in to become a better and greener place. On one side of each leaf, we put down our own promise as to what we can do to help our environment – on the other side, we put down a promise that we would like those within government to fulfil for us as well. When using colour, we chose lots of different shades of red, green, brown, yellow and orange for our leaves.

During our day, we also created Fair-trade and Sustainability Logo’s for a competition within the school. One badge will be chosen once all of the designs are complete. P4/5/6 have made a fantastic effort on theirs – included in some of their designs are fair-trade fruit, the Banton Primary logo, the eco flag and a variety of different original designs.

In the afternoon with Mrs Rae, we progressed our cooking skills by creating some delicious apple muffins! These apples were picked in Banton by our Primary 1-3 pupils this week and the juicy fresh apples were then used for our cooking experience! Primary 4/5/6 measured our their ingredients, followed instructions correctly and then mixed all of their ingredients together to be put into the oven for baking! They were very tasty, and we even managed to grab 5 minutes at the end of the day to taste test them outside!

Buddies take on Picasso! Scottish Maths Week…

This week, Primary 4/5/6 have been focussing on Scottish Maths Week.

They completed maths stations previously, and have now incorporated their art work into their maths learning! Instead of the famous ‘Picasso’ each class member became ‘Mathasso’ – where they had to create a piece of art using numbers.

They created facial features and a body which were finished and displayed below!

P4/5/6 Outdoor Learning Day

P4/5/6 had their Outdoor Learning Day today! We looked at literacy, numeracy, fitness and topic work. In the photographs below, we created our spelling words in literacy using a selection of stones and recalled information on Climate Change to write down what we know – this is the topic that we are currently focusing on in class. In numeracy, we looked at estimation and rounding – we estimated how many stones were in the jar, we also estimated how far we could jump and measured it, we created zig-zag patterns and measured them, practiced rounding to the nearest hundred thousand, thousand, or hundred and we also we created a times table square as a bonus task to answer a selection of questions!

We took a well deserved rest at the end of the learning to enjoy our climbing frame after all of our hard work.

Well Done Primary 4/5/6!

Basketball – PE!

September 14, 2021 by Ms Paton | 0 comments

Primary 4/5/6 have been working hard on their level of performance and fitness over the past few weeks! The class have been completing fast paced movements and can turn direction quickly, whilst maintaining balance and control of the ball.

They can use different types of throws when shooting into hoops or when passing to team members. From working in teams, the class are able to continue to adapt and sequence their movements to work together and keep control of the ball.

The class are also using their movement skills with confidence, they are doing this through through active footwork when moving to a space to catch the basketball.

Primary 4/5/6 have created their own class rules!

We have chosen…

Be caring!
Be respectful!
Be responsible!

We are going to help each other and work together to make sure that we are following our class rules at all times.
