Haiku Poems and Potatoes!

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about Haiku poems.

Here are some things we know about them.

1-They have three lines.

2 – They have 5 syllables in the first line, 7 in the second and 5 in the last line.

3 – They are a Japanese type of poetry.

Sometimes we found it hard to think of what words to use.Β  You had to think hard about the words and had to go back and check your lines lots of time.

We learned how to work out how many syllables are in a word.Β  You can clap it out or count how many times your chin moves when you say the word.

Today we have been cooking potatoes that we grew in our garden.Β  While we waited for them to boil we wrote Haikus about potatoes.

Outdoor Learning – Day 3πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¦πŸ˜

Primary 3/4 had their 3rd outdoor learning day last Thursday and we loved it even though it was very wet!
We started off our day making our own alphabets using natural materials that we could find in the playground. Lots of us decided to use sticks because we thought they would be easiest and make the best letters. πŸ”
Next we used some chalk to draw out some examples of fractions and got a partner to write it down. We enjoy being the teacher for our partners πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ«πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ«πŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸ«
In the afternoon we done some planting of vegetables. We planted some carrots, onion and leak! We enjoyed getting our hands dirty and fingers crossed our plants grow! πŸ§…πŸ₯•πŸ§‘πŸ½β€πŸŒΎ

Outdoor Learning Day – Term 2πŸŒ₯️πŸ₯ΆπŸ‘πŸΌ

Primary 3/4 spent the day learning outsideπŸ₯Άβ„️πŸŒ₯️

We started off with some literacy work. We had to find our own object from the playground to make into our very own character for a story. Once we were finished and had lots of ideas we shared them to everyone in the class. We got very creative!
Next was maths. We have started focusing on money so we had a money hunt. It took us ages to find some but we managed!
Lastly, our topic in class is the 1980s so we looked at a game they played in the 80s which was hopscotch. We all made our own one then decided to join them all together to make a huge one!
It was freezing outside today but we give our outdoor learning day a thumbs up! πŸ˜πŸ‘πŸΌ

We have also been working so well with the other boys and girls in our class, during maths games and during our art work for our science topic of the Water Cycle. βž•πŸŽ¨πŸ’¦πŸ’§

On Roald Dahl day we done a comprehension activity and learned all about Roald Dahl’s life. It was very interesting! πŸ“š
We have all been really enjoying our new topic of the Water Cycle! We have been researching and designing our own posters for the different types of clouds! Ask us all about it!!πŸŒ¨οΈπŸ’¦πŸ’§
Finally, we loved our classroom PE time, we done some yoga and dancing. We enjoyed letting all friends see our silly dancing but it really tired us out πŸ•ΊπŸ½πŸ‘―β€β™€οΈπŸ‘―β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜΄

Welcome back Primary 3/4

Primary 3/4 have been enjoying being back at school!
In the first few weeks we all agreed in our rights we wanted to focus on for our class charter which lots of the parents got to see at meet the teacher.
We enjoyed our first session of PE, we were very tired after it and there was lots of red faces!
Finally, we have all been loving our class novel β€˜The Boy Who Grew Dragons’. We created our own character profiles for the main character Tomas, and even designed our own dragons and gave them all a different power. We have also been using our ICT and art skills to research more information on dragons to create our own fact files and design our own WANTED posters! They look fab πŸ™‚

Earth Day!

Last Friday we celebrated Earth Day 2023. We decided to focus on litter and how we can encourage people to recycle.

In the morning we had a lovely visit from some lambs! They were super cute and we even got to pet them.

After break we went on a litter pick around Banton. It is very important to us to keep our village clean.

We also made posters, stories and presentations about the importance of recycling, what we can recycle and how we can recycle.

Construction !

We have loved becoming engineers and builders, creating our own buildings and designs. We have learnt that we use lots of different skills like;

– planning and designing

– communication

-team work

– problem solving

– critical thinking

We loved creating our own challenges for our friends to solve. We have used lots of different materials, such as cardboard, K’NEX and Kapla, which is like massive Jenga. We know that it is important to plan our design to think about how it will work. Then as we create our design we can make changes to make it even better! We have made castles, buildings, boats, bridges and even fun fair rides that can move! Here are some photos of our designs.
