On Wednesday Afternoon the Biggies went on a walk down to Dow’s Wood with Mr and Mrs. Carter. The focus was on trees, but we kept ours eyes and ears open to other experiences.

In this photo we are looking very interested in the Alder tree. We are wondering about the cones on it and we love the look of them. We are listening to everything Mr Carter knows about the alder tree. -Zara, Islay and Fulton

The gorse that was in Dows woods was very sharp when we touched it.
We were listening to Mr and Mrs Carter when they were talking about the gorse to us and how they smell like coconut.
We were all observing the trees and nature around us and listening to Mr and Mrs Carter.
Everyone really really loved the colour of the gorse because it was a very bright yellow!
We were writing down what we saw in the woods in our little booklet.
Everyone was very happy when they looked at the gorse.
We were all trying to see if there was any bugs on the gorse because sometimes there are little bugs.
Mrs Carter was collecting some gorse for everyone to look at.

We were in Andrew Dows wood and we were there to see the trees and how old they were. The trees were covering the sun and it gave us some shade so there were wee glimpses of sun. There were beech trees that were very old and some that were very young. Some of the beech trees were over 100 years old.
There were some mossy rocks surrounding the trees and they were all shaped in different and peculiar ways. There were wee parts of bark that were scuffed and scraped off the trees. The scents around us were both nice and horrible. The good scent was off of the trees around us.

We arrived at Dow’s wood and looked at all the plants and trees while we were walking. We followed a path trough the woods and arrived at a bright but shaded place covered in trees. We measured the trees by holding hands and doing very complicated maths. Heather Jessica and Emily

Back in class we worked on sketching and trying to identify leaves and flowers from the trees we had seen.
