Last week the Green Team planned and led Climate Action Week for the whole school.<\/p>\n

The week started with planting and litter picking in our playground.<\/p>\n

We had a whole school walk to the woods on Tuesday \u00a0where parents and families were invited to join us. \u00a0This was a great success. \u00a0The weather even stayed nice for us and the pupils and parents had a lovely time exploring and hunting for different things in the woods. \u00a0In the spirit of sustainability, we didn\u2019t bring anything home from the woods except for some lovely memories.<\/p>\n

Tuesday continued with a recycling challenge in assembly where the pupils were challenged to create a toy or a game using recycling that had been brought in from home. \u00a0Reusing items that would have normally gone in the family recycling bin. \u00a0You will be able to see some of our fabulous creations in our photo gallery.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday we continued our planting. \u00a0P5\/6\/7 \u00a0learned the planters at the front of the school and the bee hotels in the playground. \u00a0They will be replanted with wildflowers and spring bulbs. \u00a0P3\/4\/5 planted herbs such as thyme and rosemary, whilst P1\/2\/3 planted onions and carrots.<\/p>\n

Thursday was \u201cNo Power Day\u201d and whilst it was nearly impossibly to get through the whole day using absolutely no power, it was possible for staff and pupils to all be more aware of the power we use every day without thinking about it.<\/p>\n

Friday was our \u201cOne Planet Picnic\u201d. \u00a0Pupils all prepared foods to eat. \u00a0P1\/2\/3 prepared fruit, P3\/4\/5 prepared fruit smoothies and P5\/6\/7 made their own bread for sandwiches. \u00a0We sourced our fruit from the fruit shop in Kilsyth and it was delivered to us. We saved on plastic packaging and our fruit was lovely and fresh from the fruit market that morning. \u00a0Pupils brought waste free snacks in reusable containers and we all enjoyed fruit, smoothies, and sandwiches prepared by our pupils. Once again, the weather brightened up for us and we had a great picnic outside with our friends.<\/p>\n
