Today in Assembly, pupils explored Article 7 through discussion, news, and story.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“Every child has the right to be registered at birth, to have a name and nationality, and, as far as possible, to know and be cared for by their parents.”<\/strong><\/em><\/h1>\n

We spoke about being registered and how this makes us part of a community and the services it provides.\u00a0 We saw news about displaced families who haven’t been able to register the birth of their children.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We listened to the story ‘Name in a Jar’ about a little girl from Korea who moved to America who was worried about sharing her name because people couldn’t pronounce it properly.\u00a0 It really highlighted the importance of having a name and knowing where you come from.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Some pupils shared the reason for their name.\u00a0 Xander said his mum picked it because it sounded cool.\u00a0 Rose said Violet got her name from a card that her mum saw and then she wanted a name that was just as beautiful, so Rose. Lots of children spoke about their middle name being the name of their parent or grandparent.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

If your child came home and started asking about why they were given their name\u00a0 – now you know.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
