Rights Respecting Schools<\/strong><\/span>
\nRights Respecting School CommitteeUNICEF is the world\u2019s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. You can read about the UN Convention on the Right\u2019s of a Child here<\/a>. These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.Balmalloch Primary School and Nursery class have been working towards achieving the UNICEF silver level Rights Respecting School Award. This award shows our commitment to building a sustainable rights respecting environment throughout the school where everyone is respectful of each other and understand the responsibilities they have. We do this by promoting the principles of the \u2018United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child\u2019 throughout the school and use this as part of our vision in improving the school. These principles have been integrated within the planning of teaching and learning and underpin many of our own school values.<\/p>\n

To help us build on the foundations of the positive ethos of our school, we have created a Rights Respecting School Committee (RRSC). Children within the RRSC previously will have been involved in helping to support the Kilsyth and Community Foodbank as well as planning and organising other school events. As a whole school we have also taken part in raising awareness by supporting Anti-Bullying Week as well as Lots of Socks Day. The RRSC have also created an award for Kindness and Respect class champions to help recognise and celebrate both of these attributes in individuals. This year selected individuals from Primary 4 who will be given the opportunity to join the RRSC.<\/p>\n

In May 2024, we achieved UNICEF Silver Level Rights Respecting Award. We are so proud of the efforts of all our pupils and staff who have strived towards achieving this level.
