{"id":894,"date":"2015-06-19T09:40:19","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T09:40:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/anntest3\/?page_id=115"},"modified":"2025-02-20T18:08:09","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T18:08:09","slug":"literacy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/balmalloch\/literacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Literacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The development of literacy skills plays an important role in all learning.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils develop and extend\u00a0 literacy skills when they have opportunities to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>communicate, collaborate and build relationships<\/li>\n<li>reflect on and explain\u00a0 literacy and thinking skills, using feedback to help them improve and sensitively provide useful feedback for others<\/li>\n<li>engage with and create a wide range of texts in different media, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by ICT<\/li>\n<li>develop an understanding of what is special, vibrant and valuable about their own and other cultures and their languages<\/li>\n<li>explore the richness and diversity of language, how it can affect them, and the wide range of ways in which they can be creative<\/li>\n<li>extend and enrich\u00a0 vocabulary through listening, talking, watching and reading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In developing my English language skills pupils:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0engage with a wide range of texts and develop an appreciation of the richness and breadth of Scotland\u2019s literary and linguistic heritage<\/li>\n<li>enjoy exploring and discussing word patterns and text structures.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our teachers planning and assessment are support by North Lanarkshire Council&#8217;s :<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/nl\/public\/balmalloch\/uploads\/sites\/17137\/2025\/02\/20180704\/Literacy-Progression-Pathway-Entire-Document-1-1.pdf\">Literacy Progression Pathway Entire Document (1) (1)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The development of literacy skills plays an important role in all learning.
