Since Halloween will be a bit different this year, North Lanarkshire Council are promoting a Halloween at home using the hashtag #NLHalloweek. Lots of activities are being organised through Facebook and can be found by searching for #NLHalloweek

One of the activities is Halloween Haunted Hunt and we’d love it if everyone in Auchinloch took part. Every child will come home with a colouring sheet with either a ghost, bat, witch, pumpkin, spider or skeleton on it along with a tally mark grid. If you put the picture in a window that can be seen from the street and then children can walk around their local streets and count how many of each spooky character they can find.

If your child doesn’t live in the village, please share the information with friends and family and hopefully more people will take part. We look forward to hearing how many characters our children find across #NLHalloweek

Sports Committee Relay Marathon

The first action of our Sports Committee this year was to approach Mr Brown and ask to organise a charity event. They decided to run a relay marathon. Each member will run approximately 7km with the total adding up to 26.2 miles, all to raise £200 for NHS Charities Together. The Just Giving page has been live for just over 24 hours and they have already reached 80% of their target!

Please support our pupils achieve their goal in running 26.2 miles for NHS Charities together and donate if you can.

Pupil Leadership Team

Yesterday our School Captain presented the prefects with their badges. This is a new role for our school, established by this year’s Captain and one we are very excited about.

Early next week our Pupil Leadership Team will meet to discuss their roles and remits for the 2020-21 session. They will be a bit different this year as we are following COVID-19 guidelines but we have great role models to lead the rest of our pupils.

Let us now introduce our full Pupil Leadership Team…

House Points ❤️💙💛💚

We reintroduced our house points system today and our P1s were given their new houses. Points can be earned around the school, in the dinner hall and playground for demonstrating our school values.
Every adult in the school can award points and at the end of each term the winning house will be awarded an extra playtime. Our house system promotes a greater sense of community between our classes and gives everyone a way to work together even when we’re having to stay apart.

We can’t use our house point cards this year so are using a digital way of recording the points. Please ask your child about it.

The election for school and house captains is well underway and we should be able to announce the captain for 2020/21 soon. Stay tuned!

Home Learning Grids

Home Learning Grids have been uploaded to the website and to the appropriate class teams. The format is a bit different, there is now a slide for each day with tasks to work through. This is a suggested structure, if you have a different routine and it’s working – stick with it.

Class Notebook

Every child now has access to their own notebook. Work can be uploaded, and feedback will be given by the Class Teachers. Please continue to post photographs on the main ‘posts’ section as this has been generating lots of discussion and we know many children have enjoyed seeing their classmates from afar.

For any children who have used up the space in their jotters, more can be collected from the shop across from the school. Please only take one per pupil when you need it. We will replenish the stock regularly.

P7 to S1 Transition

For those moving on to Chryston High School keep an eye on the @CHSp7Transition on Twitter as the staff are uploading transition videos to their YouTube channel every week.

Watching these videos is also a great opportunity for our P6s who will very soon be thinking about the move to high school. Getting a tour of the school and meeting the staff from the comfort of your own home will surely calm a few anxieties.

For those moving on to Lenzie Academy, the P7 Transition team will close at the end of this week, Friday 5th June. If you haven’t already been on to explore, please do so this week. We would hate for you to miss this opportunity.

Nursery to P1 Transition

To the parents of the children starting P1 in August, thank you for your patience. We deliberately haven’t sent out any information as we wanted to wait until we had information to give you. We will be in touch in the coming weeks with regard the transition from Nursery to P1 and starting school in August.
