Our Planets are out of this world!

Room 1 have been completing a block of learning on Topical Science.  We have been following Tim Peake and his mission on the International Space Station as well as learning about space.

We researched a specific planet in our Solar System and created fact files on them.  We then used paper mache to create a model of our solar system.  We tried to make our models’ size to scale in relation to each other.

Have a look at our completed display! It’s out of this world! 🙂

Sit down for Breakfast Stand up for Farmers

It is Fairtrade Fortnight and our Fair Trade Committee did some interesting research to find out what Fairtrade means. They went for a visit to the Local Co-op to find Fair Trade products. We realised that some of our favourite foods like bananas, chocolate and blueberries, can all be Fairtrade and that this means the farmers who have grown these will get a better price for their crop.

The whole school got together to sit down for breakfast and stand up for farmers. P3100139[1]

World Book Day

For World Book Day the whole school took part in shared reading. The Primary 6/7 children paired up with Primary 1/2 class and the Primary 3/4 paired up with Primary 4/5.

The children shared their favourite books with each other and enjoyed reading part of their books to children from the other classes.

Building bridges

image image image image image image imageToday in class we started our bridges topic, we looked at three different types of bridges:

A beam bridge

A truss bridge

A suspension bridge

We see making a beam bridge with the construction blocks.

We used different materials to make our bridges. We found out what happens when the bridge is not stron enough or designed well.

Outdoor learning in P1/2

Primary 1/2 have been doing a lot of outdoor learning, last week we decided to take our measuring sticks outside to measure the lengths of objects in the playground and also lengths of animals.

IMG_0845 IMG_0840 The length of an elephant, we used measuring sticks to measure out 6 meters.

I can accurately measure using a measuring stick.
