Day 2
Wow what a busy day today! The weather was great all day. Although it was cold in the morning, the sun shone all afternoon which meant that all our groups could get on the water (and in it! )
We had some skiing on the dry ski slopes, abseiling and rock climbing and of course canoeing! Yea! All the children were terrific and tried their very best. They have really enjoyed today. At the moment they are all outside doing an ‘aeroplane activity’ with Mrs Russell and Mrs Bodin (and all the other children and staff) to let me update you on what is happening. I have included a few photographs . (I hope)
I think the forecast for tomorrow isn’t as good but it won’t stop us from having a great time 🙂
Will try to add some more photos when I can.It is taking ages to download images 🙁
Kilbowie ~ First Day
We arrived safely this afternoon. We had a lovely lunch and dinner and yes, we all managed to make our beds, unpack and tidy our rooms!
The children are all taking part in an activity just now but it is indoors as it is a wee bit too windy to go outside.
Will keep you up to date tomorrow!
KIlbowie
Primary 7 are going to Kilbowie tomorrow for a week long health week! Yea!
I hope everyone is packed and ready and looking forward to their visit. Try to get a good night’s sleep!
We will try to keep everyone up to date in this blog so keep watching/reading to see us in action.
Health Week
This week at Aitkenhead is Health Week!
We are looking forward to trying out lots of new activities and some healthy food.
Trout Release Day – Primary 6
Today we released our fish which are late alevin into the River Clyde at Strathclyde Park. We gave the fish names before we let them ago. We wish we could do this topic every year as we had such a great time. When we came back to school we counted how many fish had survived during our project. 77 fish from our 200 eggs survived, we worked this out as three eighths and 38% Not bad considering only 5% would survive if they had been laid in the wild.
Wednesday 4th February 2015
I couldn’t believe that some of the eggs had hatched into alevin over the weekend and start of the week. Today we had a chance to take them out of the hatchery and look at them under the microscope. We recorded the changes in our growth diaries. Was anyone else surprised?
We also enjoyed the cold, fresh air during our French lesson today. We played games and went on a scavenger hunt to find colours in and around our playground. We created rubbings of the colours and labelled them in French. Did you enjoy this boys and girls?
Snow, Snow, Snow!!
The fish are here!!
They are here!!!! Primary 6 were so excited to receive our deliverly of little trout eggs yesterday. Davy our fish expert came and gave us a talk, letting us see the eggs up close before they went into the tank. We have been struggling to maintain the temperature of the water so now the pressure is on! The fish are our responsibility… eek!
Primary 6 – Launch of Clyde in the Classroom
On Thursday 15th of January primary 6 attended the launch of the Clyde in the Classroom project at the Glasgow Science Centre. Children had a great time exploring all the experiments around the malls and listening to presentations about the project. They got a chance to see the hatchery, how it is set up and see some of the eggs. I think they were a bit surprised to find out the hatchery is being delivered…. TODAY!! Children will learn how to control the temperature of the water in the hatchery before the eggs are delivered on Wednesday 28th of January.
