It helps us to understand how children are progressing and to plan next steps in learning.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"401\" data-end=\"634\">Assessment is ongoing and part of daily classroom practice. Staff gather evidence through observations, discussions, children\u2019s work and a range of assessment approaches, including formative, summative and diagnostic assessments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"636\" data-end=\"798\">We build a <strong data-start=\"647\" data-end=\"702\">holistic picture of each child\u2019s learning over time<\/strong>, ensuring that professional judgement is not based on a single assessment or piece of evidence.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"800\" data-end=\"969\">Children also take part in <strong data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"889\">national assessments at Primary 1, Primary 4 and Primary 7<\/strong>, which provide additional information to support our understanding of progress.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"1145\"><strong data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"987\">Teacher professional judgement<\/strong> is central to our approach. Staff use their knowledge of each child, alongside assessment evidence, to make informed decisions about progress and next steps.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1147\" data-end=\"1328\">Children are actively involved in their learning.
