Our JRSO officers spoke with confidence at our Assembly highlightling European Day without a Road Death 19/9/18.  They also gave a quick run down of the exciting things they have coming up.  They are starting their Friday Club for interested pupils working on the word search competition on the JRSO Website and they will be collecting entries for the Road Safety Calendar Competition next week.

Highly commended – Road Safety Slogan Competition

Alicia was almost lost for words today when she found out that her slogan ‘shine and twinkle while you cycle’ was highly commended in the recent Road Safety Slogan Competition.  We are so proud of you Alicia and we just need to look at this picture to see how very proud you are of yourself!  Great effort by you and all others who entered.  More great achievements by Abronhill Primary School!

Community Police and JRSO Assembly

Constables Hendry and Cameron, Community Police Officers delivered an excellent cycling safety talk.  They were assisted by our Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO).  Our pupils asked great questions and couldn’t believe that Constable Hendry had 24 gears on his bike and Constable Cameron 21!  Our JRSOs complemented the presentation with a practical demonstration about crossing the road and also how wearing a helmet protects your head and should ALWAYS be worn.  You can see some of our pupils testing the egg helmet and some others smashing the eggs to prove they were real.  No eggs cracked at all when wearing the helmet but everyone smashed instantly without it, an important safety message for all.  The children were also interested in the variety of jobs available within the police force.  Thank you so very much Constables Hendry and Cameron, it was great having you lead our assembly!
