This provides a means of checking progress and development. Both formal and informal methods of assessment are used. The school is encouraging pupils to be fully active in their own learning and set themselves targets. Opportunities will be given for pupils to evaluate their own progress and aptitudes and contribute to their own learning plans.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Assessment and recording are important so that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>progress can be charted and information passed on to teachers and parents<\/li>\n<li>difficulties can be diagnosed and effectively dealt with<\/li>\n<li>meaningful dialogue can take place with teachers, parents, and pupils<\/li>\n<li>the transition from primary to secondary can be made more smoothly<\/li>\n<li>parents are fully informed of their child\u2019s progress<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Some of our checks are made by using:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>small focused end of unit tests<\/li>\n<li>looking at class work \u2013 jotters, notebooks, etc<\/li>\n<li>special assignments and homework exercises<\/li>\n<li>standardised tests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Reporting to Parents<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Parents are encouraged to visit the school if they have concerns about any aspect of their child\u2019s education. In addition the school uses the following methods of reporting to parents:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parental open meeting usually September<\/li>\n<li>Interim Report \u2013 September\/October<\/li>\n<li>Parents\u2019 evenings \u2013 one in November, one in May<\/li>\n<li>Written Report \u2013 in March<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Education Scotland<\/strong> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.educationscotland.org.uk\">www.educationscotland.org.uk<\/a><u>)<\/u> website will provide further information on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>experiences and outcomes of A Curriculum for Excellence<\/li>\n<li>curriculum areas<\/li>\n<li>inspections and reviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASSESSMENT RECORDING AND REPORTING Assessment is an important part of learning and teaching.
