Making Victorian Bread

As part of our Interdisciplinary topic on The Victorians, P6B made traditional Victorian bread.  We started the morning using our maths skills to measure and weigh the ingredients, then using the clock we timed how long each part of the process would take. We also used our language skills to write about our experience of making bread in the traditional way.

The class had a fantastic time baking but now realise the hard work that went into making just one loaf of bread, I doubt any of the boys or girls would like to be a Victorian kitchen maid and get up at 4am to start cooking.  please look at our pictures below and leave some comments for the class.

I.D.L

In my school we are working on I.D.L which stands for interdisciplinary learning. In art in my class we make all different Victorian things because that is our topic. We are also going to visit The Victorian School Of Art on the 3rd of March.

We are looking at Victorian Toys and we got the chance to look and play with them. In story writing we are writing stories about being a Victorian child and going back in time. In math we looked at shillings and some of the money that Victorians used. In I.C.T we have been making fact file about Queen Victoria and we have also been working on Glow and looking at the other classes posts.

Co-operative Learning – Maths work

In Bay 19, the children learn through co-operative group work.  We have seven teams of 4 children who work together during Co-operative Learning lessons to share outcomes and achieve common goals.

During a recent maths lesson, the children used their co-operative groups to sort 2d shapes in different categories on a Carroll diagram.  At the end of the lesson, some of the groups reported back to the whole class to share their learning.

Our Graph Work

In class  we have been learning about graphs. We have learned that to make a bar graph you have to gather information in tally marks then you draw the bar graph and lable it . If you are making a line graph you make a tally table then you make the information into  a line graph by making straight lines to where it shows the number.
