Monday 3rd of June – Friday 7th of June

Monday 3rd of June was our first ever Global day. It was a dress down day and started with a special assembly. Fr Ciaran from the Redemptorist fathers spoke to the children and taught them a hymn for their Mass tomorrow. We recognise achievements out of school at assembly each week. This week our children had medals and trophies for football, highland dancing and gymnastics.

Beats of Brazil and Primary Seven samba Drumming

Children all had passports and coins from their countries. They were able to visit other classes and spend money to find out facts about each country. Mrs Preston overheard a child say it was their best ever day at school!

In the afternoon we had Beats of Brazil and primary 7 giving a wonderful performance of samba drumming. John, the band leader told me it was the fastest ever rehearsal for a performance. He was amazed by how good our children were. Parents who managed to attend spoke to me at the end to say how much they had enjoyed the performance.

Aileen,  our Care Inspectorate finished her inspection of the nursery today. She was pleased with our performance. We hope to have the report in the next few days. Primary 6 also managed to fit in some indoor bowling!

Tuesday 4th of June The whole school attended Mass for the Mission in St Thomas’ Parish. It was a beautiful day, the children behaved well and sang out. It was an uplifting event.

We welcomed the first of our nursery children for their induction this afternnon. Some of the children won’t be three until January!! They played very well while I spoke to parents about life in our nursery class.

Wednesday 5th of June Primary seven completed  the Wear Yellow Walk, in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice. They had a glorious day. Please complete their sponsor forms for this very worthwhile charity.

Motherwell Football Club coaches were in P6 and P5/6 today for week three of their programme.

The Parent Council met tonight and organised the shorts and shades disco on Thursday 15th. They are also raffling a Summer Holiday hamper. Donations of toiletries can be handed into the school office. I reported to the council on a number of issues including staffing, our nursery inspection and  sports’ day.

A group of  around 30 children and their families attended the family service in St Thomas’ Parish. Every child who attended was given a Miraculous Medal.

Thursday 6th of June Our second nursery induction afternoon took place.

Both Primary 7 classes attended sessions of bowling. Mr Duffy reports we have a few stars of the future!

Friday 7th of June Our butterflies in the infants are fully hatched and the children set them free today.

Our nursery children attended Purves Puppets in Biggar. They were each accompanied by a parent. They enjoyed the show and an ice cream at interval. I hear many parents were coaxed into buying puppets!

This afternoon was our last Citizenship  session of the year.  Many groups had a special event. The Spanish Kids had a TAPAS lunch! Miss Dormer, Mr Connor, Mrs McLelland, four children and myself met with Chris Nicols from NLC waste management. He gave us some very good advice about recycling food waste. We hope to contribute to budget savings and to saving our planet by recycling more of our waste next session.
