St Monica’s Primary is a Roman Catholic co-educational school serving the Kirkwood area of Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The school and its children are an integral part of the community. We are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment, married with high standards and expectations. Our motto is Pray, Learn, Grow Together.
St. Monica’s Primary was opened in 1956 as a denominational primary. The school comprises a two storey building with grassed areas to the rear of the school and a community play park to the front. The building has disabled access and has teaching rooms, a library, an ICT room, and an active learning area and a nurture base. The hall and open areas are for multi-purpose use.
In August 2024 we welcomed Drumpark Annex to the building. This is a school which supports learners who have additional needs. They use the single storey wing of the building and have their own management structure which is separate from St Monica’s. The school also hosts two rooms dedicated as the Cluster Wellbeing Base.
The school currently has a roll of 179. We currently have 7 classes, with 2 composite classes at p1/2 and p2/3
There is a Parent Council, Pupil Council and Eco & Rights Respecting Committees.
Various after school clubs/activities include football and karate.
Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from St Monica’s primary normally transfer to St Andrew’s High School
