Play helps young children develop early reading and number skills, build confidence, solve problems, get along with others and learn to manage their emotions.<\/p>\n<p>In our classrooms, we use a <strong>careful balance<\/strong> of different types of learning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Teacher\u2011led learning<\/strong>, where the teacher joins in and helps guide children\u2019s thinking<\/li>\n<li><strong>Teacher\u2011directed learning<\/strong>, where key skills are taught in short, focused sessions<\/li>\n<li><strong>Child\u2011led play<\/strong>, where children explore, create and follow their own ideas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This mix means children get the important skills they need, while also having time to be curious, imaginative and independent. It allows them to learn new things in a way that feels natural, enjoyable and meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>Through this approach, children at St\u202fIgnatius&#8217; develop not only early literacy and numeracy, but also important life skills like communicating well, working with others, being resilient, solving problems and managing their own learning.
