St Ignatius' PS

Weekly Blog 4th June 2018

The next few weeks are going to be busy in St Ignatius School and Nursery Class:

Today, Miss McGovern will take the Rainbow Room children for a picnic to Belhaven Park in the afternoon.

This Wednesday is Eco day and children are asked to come along to school dressed in green if possible. No football colours please.  Mrs Zonfrillo has worked hard with the Eco group to organise this day.

A group of Primary 4 girls have worked very hard over the last few weeks, giving up playtimes and lunchtimes, to make craft goods which they will now sell to raise funds for one of the school chosen charities, Let the Children Live. Summer Craft Shop opens today. Your child will have the opportunity to visit this shop after lunchtime and purchase craft goods.

We have inductions days for our new primary 1 children and we look forward to welcoming them and their families into our learning community.

This Sunday, 10th June, Primary 4 children who recently made their first communion will take part in a thanksgiving mass at 10.00am in St Ignatius Parish Church. There will be a parish breakfast afterwards in the Loyal Centre.

School and Nursery graduations will also take place over the next few weeks.

A fun day will take place in the school on Wednesday 27th June. This proved to be a very popular day last year and we hope that the children enjoy what we have planned for this year. Many thanks to the PTFA who have raised funds to support part of this day. We would be grateful if you can help support this day and pay £2 towards the cost. There will be a magician, an ice cream van, bouncy castle and lots more.

Primary 7 children will be particularly busy this month. There will be three transition days to the High School as well as a pizza disco and as a special treat for all their hard work this year, they will being going to Belhaven Park for a picnic on the last week of term. Please check the newsletter for these dates.

Mrs McIntrye represented the school at Cardinal Winning Lecture at the weekend. If you wish to read Nicola Sturgeon’s speech you will find this on the school twitter account. It was reassuring to hear her words especially in this year of the Catholic Education Act. Primary 7 are currently working an assembly about this and will presenting it to the rest of the school over the next few weeks.

Currently the staff are working on Report Cards and these will be given out before the end of the term. We have new format this year that includes the SHANIRRI indicators thus giving more information regarding your child’s health and wellbeing. Children will also read the report card and comment on it before it is sent home.

The nursery children, their families and staff enjoyed their trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park. Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 also enjoyed their trip to Culzean gardens. Fortunately the sun shone for both trips.

We were delighted to officially receive our Bronze award for Attachment and Trauma Sensitive school award. We will continue to work with Dr Jenny Nock on our journey towards our Silver award.   I am hoping to provide a workshop for parent who are interested in finding out more about this.

You will receive a newsletter in the next few days with dates for all events taking place over the next few weeks. Also keeping checking the school app and twitter to keep you up to date.
