We are now all well settled into the Summer Term.\u00a0 It has been a very busy few weeks since Easter and it will continue to be so for the remainder of this term.\u00a0 Last week our P1 children enjoyed their visit to Strathclyde Park with their Teddy Bears, thanks to all who have been very generous with donations to St Andrew’s Hospice.\u00a0\u00a0 We are also very grateful to Mr Finnigan who recently ran the Belfast Marathon in aid of our school fund.\u00a0 The contribution to the school is a great bonus and will help us to continue to offer visits, outings and experiences to all children.<\/p>\n

Next week a group of 30 P6 and P7 pupils are going to Glenmore Lodge in Aviemore for a 3 day visit.\u00a0 It will be a great experience for all.\u00a0 We are hoping for the good weather to continue, although we still hope to see some snow at the summit of Cairngorm Mountain on Tuesday when we go to the top on the mountain railway.\u00a0 The children will be canoeing, wind surfing, sailing, walking and mountain biking on and around Loch Morlich.\u00a0 We are also hoping to have a campfire on the beach!\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All classes are working well this term and are enjoying the theme of Glasgow 2014.\u00a0 Our Sports Day on 19th June will be fantastic conclusion to the learning.\u00a0 We are already discussing new fun events for the day!<\/p>\n

On Saturday our P4 children will receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion at 10am in the Church.\u00a0 The children are working hard to prepare to make sure they all have a very memorable day.\u00a0 Please remember\u00a0 the children in your prayers.<\/p>\n

The Polish School are also hosting a special assembly on Saturday at 2.30pm to which pupils of St Bernadette’s are invited.\u00a0 The assembly will host a very special visitor Martin Gluch a renowned pianist from Poland.\u00a0 During his visit to Scotland Martin has very kindly offered to come into St Bernadette’s on Friday 16th May to work with all our children in music.\u00a0 We are really looking forward to welcoming him.<\/p>\n

This week I have enjoyed seeing our P2\/1 class rehearse for their assembly – it is going to be terrific.\u00a0 Parents and friends are invited to come into school on Friday at 1.15pm to watch the assembly.<\/p>\n

Finally our partnership project with Namulenga Girls School continues to grow and develop.\u00a0 I have been in regular contact with the Headteacher and we are well ahead in developing plans for collaborative class projects for next session.\u00a0 I am confident our children will benefit greatly from the work we propose.\u00a0 Mrs McIntyre and I have a visit to the school planned for September 2014 where we will be able to formalise our partnership and agree planning for the long term as well as establishing relationships and learning about the culture of Malawi. \u00a0 We are also planning to support the Parish Partnership Container Project through preparing backpacks for the children in the school in Malawi.\u00a0 Details will be issued shortly.\u00a0 The target for our school has been set at 400!!\u00a0 I’m confident though that we will make a great effort to meet this ambitious target.<\/p>\n
