We were out in the garden learning how to find the perimeter of an object. We used trundle wheels, measuring tapes and metre sticks. We worked in pairs to find a variety of perimeters. It was great to take our learning outdoors.

Myself and my P7 class have been having a look at your class blog. We like your idea of linking numeracy to outdoor learning and doing your maths work outside. Top tip!
thanks we have seen that you have been doing maths with chalk on the playground :). From Mason Murray 😀
Well done Primary 7.
What is best? Learning about perimeter in your textbook and jotter or getting outside and measuring real objects? Can you tell me which is the best way to learn about perimeter and why?
Thanks.
Hello Mrs McLeod,
I personally think that it is better to go out side and measure real objects because it is more fun and you get to interact more. If you are inside doing textbook it can get very boring very quickly, and it is just more fun to be outside than inside. Another reason is that there is more fresh air outside :).
I think outdoor learning is best because textbooks help you learn but most people get distracted and lose consentration and I enjoy seeing the wyldlife while working 🙂
