NL Sports Day

We can’t wait to take part in the NL Sports Day, we hope that you all are able to participate!

There will be 7 events and over the next few days we will share what these will be. The first two events are a 100m sprint and the egg and spoon race.

100m Sprint – Get an adult to help you measure out 100m and mark out the start and end. Use cones, jumpers, bottles or anything you can find to mark this out. Then ask your adult to time you as you run from the start to the end, you can run this a few times to get your best time!

Egg and Spoon Race –  This will be run over the 100m distance again. You will need a spoon and an egg and an adult to help record your score. Run as fast as you can, if you drop your egg pause, put it back on the spoon and continue to run. You can re-run this to get your best score. If you don’t have an egg you can use a potato or a bean bag.

Come back tomorrow to find out about some of the other events!!

Stone art pictures

Hi boys and girls.
I have been involved in training looking at activities involving the world around us. I have been enjoying it very much so thought I would share some ideas with you. 😁

I have been busy collecting different colours of stones, pebbles and rocks.

The first activity  to do is clean all my pebbles and rocks with warm soapy water and a toothbrush.  🥰 This brings out all the different colours and their sparkly bits too! I have really enjoyed seeing the difference the water can make and seeing the difference between the colours when they are wet and the dry 😱.

The next part of the training I explored how to use all these lovely stones and pebbles  to make some art pictures. I sorted them all by colour or shape.

I then tied 4 twigs together to use as my frame and then used the different stones to make some pictures.

I took pictures of my creations and then took them apart and started again.

I had great fun with this experience using my imagination and thought you might too 💛

Why don’t you give it a try?

I hope yous have lots of fun just like i did, you can share your pictures with us too.

Sort & Count Maths Bottles

Good Afternoon boys and girls 🙂

Below is a numeracy activity that will develop your maths & motor skills:

maths: recognising numerals, counting using 1:1 correspondence, sorting and matching by colour, counting up to 10 and beyond.
motor skills: using control and precision to pick up and drop small materials, pincer grasp, hand/eye co-ordination.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Gbmhdg4G4jk/UTIvQju13LI/AAAAAAAANMY/oDr4RGBSO3o/s1600/filling+bottles+with+pom+poms.jpg

Ask an adult to take four 1 litre sized water bottles and cut a hole near the bottom of each, leaving a little lip so that pom poms won’t fall out when dropped in. Paint a thin band of colour around each one, using acrylic paint, which adheres well to plastic. You could also just tie around a coloured pipe cleaner, or a strip of coloured paper.

Next, an adult needs to use a dry-wipe pen to write a number on the front of each one and then set out a large basket filled with pom poms in the corresponding colours to the bottles, as an Invitation to Play.

When it’s time to write new numbers, the pen easily wipes off with a dry cloth and the bottles can be re-used indefinitely.

Have a lovely weekend, take care & stay safe.

Missing you lots, Miss Nicoll xx

Let’s Get Moving

Hi everyone, I hope you are all enjoying the ideas and activities on the nursery blog.

Music is a fun way of learning by developing our listening and movement skills.

We have already made our own musical instruments so why not get moving today.

A good online resource is: www.abcearlyyears.org.uk  this resource gives you free activities and I am sure the children will remember the moves from nursery.

A few ideas to get us moving;

  • Freeze dance – get someone to help by playing music then you dance and when the other person stops the music you have to freeze until the music comes back on
  • Make a band – use your instruments you may have already made or an instrument you can play and move around the room while playing
  • Name that tune – ask an adult or sibling to guess the tune that you clap out, then take it in turns
  • Dance – listen to your favourite songs and dance to the beat. If the beat is slow then you dance slow and if the beat gets faster then you follow the beat
  • Dance with props – clear a space and turn the music up. Use different fun toys as props such as; hula hoops, bean bags, scarves, hairbrushes – and start dancing!
  • Sing – choose a song to sing to your family or on your own

Have fun and remember music makes us happy!!!!!!

Leaf art pictures.

Hi everyone,

I have a great fun way to use leaves that you’ve collected on your nature walks… if you’ve not collected any then that could also be an activity to keep yous busy.

I’ve seen lots of different leaves when out walking. They are  lots of different colours, shapes and sizes.

Why not use these leaves to get creative 😁

You could use them for printing.  Paint a colour onto a leaf then turn it over and push it onto paper. Then lift it carefully and see all the little lines on the leaf printed onto your paper. Try this a few times with different shaped leaves and colours of paint.

You could also paint different patterns and pictures on to the leaf and print you design.

My favourite idea is using leaves as a face.  I stick different things onto it to make a face or animal.

Let’s see what other ways you can be creative with all the leaves🍃🍀☘️🌿🌱 …

Looking forward to seeing your lovely ideas and pictures 🥰

love, Miss McCormack
