And so much more……..

A HUGE thanks to everyone who contributed and well done to all of our pupils who increased their energy levels and had great fun promoting all the fitness opportunities in our yard.

It’s worth noting many of the outdoor activities in our yard are there due to the Fundraising Committee, as are football strips, netball bibs and cross country all weather jackets which all make an appearance later in this blog.

REMEMBER REMEMBER:

Mr Tom Renwick, an infamous Scottish Mathematics Guru will provide a workshop for all parents on Monday 20th February at 6pm in school hall. This is an event not to be missed, he is a fantastic speaker who can help you, as parents and carers, to assist your children with their numeracy skills.

Monday Evening 6pm in School Hall. Come along, it will be amazing.

Meanwhile,  on-going in school. On Tuesday P6 enjoyed their first visit to OLHS High School, a very successful day. Well done P6. Mrs Sinclair and all staff at OLHS were delighted with our children’s behaviour and positive attitude to learning. Long may it continue.

Also on this day our P4 pupils with their families celebrated a beautiful Enrolment Mass. It was lovely to strengthen our relationship with Cathedral Parish and Fr. Chromy, our new priest.

Wednesday 8th February our Confirmandi were enthralled with their guest speaker, Mrs Barbara Couper, Director of Scottish Catholic Education Service. A HUGE thanks to Mrs Couper for taking time out of her very busy schedule to come along to motivate and inspire our P6 & P7 pupils and they were indeed motivated and inspired. An excellent learning experience for all.

Towards the end of the week we enjoyed some more sporting success:

On Thursday our cross country runners were once again in action. The trials for the forthcoming finals was held. A very ‘nervous’ Mrs MM Murphy explained this was a new course, unchartered territory! But WOW 19 of our young runners have qualified for the finals. What an incredible achievement.

Well done to all who participated. Grateful thanks to Mrs MM Murphy, Mrs McCarthy, Mrs Harrison and Mr Nugent who give of their time each week to work with the children after school. Bring on the finals!

Friday brought an outing for our netball and football teams, they headed off to Ravenscraig to enjoy a sporting tournament. Our netballers won 9 out of 10 games and our footballers remain unbeaten. Excellent effort from all. Huge thanks to Active Sports personnel who train our netballers, Mrs McBirnie (AKA Willie the football coach) who led our footballers to victory and to Mrs MC Duffy who facilitated all of the event and cheered the loudest!

Lunchtimes in our school are always interesting events…..walk away from the dining hall and you’ll find a number of children actively involved in a variety of activities some of which include:

Our solo singers are busy rehearsing in the music room with Mrs Shevlin, our Young Leaders, supervised by our classroom assistants are beavering away with our youngest pupils encouraging team sports and our Burns Recital pupils, working with Miss Cawley, can be found rehearsing their pieces for the forthcoming competition. Here they are in action..

And as if that’s not enough the nursery is, as always, a hive of activity.

Every child in nursery has had the opportunity to take their own special group Alien home. This week the morning children’s photographic evidence of their Alien adventures has been showcased on the blog and next week will be the turn of the afternoon children. Look out for Aliens in Summerlee, the Transport Museum, local parks, meeting some of our animals here on Earth and even in Rome sitting on the Spanish Steps. Our Aliens are far travelled and have been learning lots about life on planet earth!
Our Alien invasion continues as the children begin to teach their Aliens all about road safety next week.

Another most successful week in the life and times of Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral School Community. Fulfilling our motto:

Living to Learn, Learning to live

  1. An incredible amount raised through ‘Friday Fitness Fun’, so many amazing resources can be purchased for the whole school through our children having fun and keeping fit. Let’s hope the parents have as much fun at the ‘Race Night’ June 9th in St Bride’s Hall!
