PLEASE NOTE: This will be the final Blog of the year, thanks to all who have taken the time to read and respond, much appreciated. Next week nursery parents should log in as we will have photographs of the nursery show.

On behalf of all in our school and nursery community, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a Holy and Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year ahead. Thanks for all you do for our school, we could not be as  successful without the immense support from our Parent Forum.

The Finale…..

A huge congratulations to our P4, P5, P6 & P7 pupils for their outstanding performances of “Stable Manners”. The children’s singing was amazing. Indeed Fr Millar was so impressed he requested the children sing one their show songs as part of the Penitential Rite in Mass on Friday – an honour indeed. Big thanks also to all those parents who braved the wind and rain to bring the children out at night to perform. Outside the wind blew and the rain poured down but inside the Spirit of Christmas was present in all – a wonderful night was enjoyed by all. A special mention to Mrs Campbell who taught all of the songs and provided a great learning curve not just for the children ut for the staff too! Thanks also to all of our upper school, and so many of our infant staff whoc ame along on Tuesday evening to show their support for our children. This committment from pupils, parents and staff is waht makes our school unique and an excellent place to be. So proud of all involved, well done everyone.

This week our nursery, Primary one and Primary Two children all received their tooth varnishing. Not the most pleasant experience for the children but one which will pay dividends in years to come. Please continue to encourage all children to make healthy choices in their food and drink and to take very good care of their teeth. Our school is such a happy school, our childrens’ teeth are on show all the time – smiles all round.

Wednesday, continuing with our health and well being our children were all (those who returned forms) given the opportunity to have a flu vaccination. Hopefully this will allow our children to have a healthier winter and less school time lost through illness.

Friday dawned cold and frosty. We decided on a last minute change of plan to ensure our children had a safe journey to Mass in O.L.G.A Cathedral. We opted to bus all children to church as the roads were still very icy and somewhat treacherous. Thanks to all for their patience waiting until we all arrived. A huge well done to our children for their exemplary behaviour, their respect and their fabulous participation throughout Mass. As a school we had a long chat on Thursday about behaiour expected in and out of our school and what makes our school such a successful place of faith and learning. The children obviously listened carefully, thank you boys and girls – I am so proud of you all.

An elderly lady stopped me outside church and said she was so impressed by the manners and respect shown by all of our pupils. She said whatever we are doing in our school it is obviously the right thing as the children showed themselves to be excellent ambassadors at Mass. Again, fantastic boys and girls- well done.

Primary Four did an excellent job of leading the liturgy – superb effort Primary four, well done.

Thanks also for the support of our local police who escorted the upper school back to school ensuring a safe journey for all.

This week we have finally started to rehearse our Kiddie Choir in preparation for the nursery show ‘It’s a Cracker’ it has been such a  busy time we have struggled to find rehearsal space but well done to our Kiddie Choir who immediately learned their songs and their participation parts. We look forward to the show being a real ‘cracker’ of a performance.

This coming week we have party afternoon on Tuesday – children should come dressed for parties in the morning. Friday we have the first of our two pantomimes – Dick McWhittington. It promises to be a spectacular show.

This coming Thursday evening our choir will be performing in O.L.G.A Cathedral Church as part of their annual Carol Concert. We look forward to this with great anticipation and great pride in our choir. Tickets can be purchased from school office – all donations go to charity.

Back to this week, and what’s been happening in the nursery…….

Ho Ho Ho Not Long To Go!!

The children have been very busy this week preparing for their Christmas show “Its a Cracker” and have been singing, dancing and trying on their costumes for the show. The show is on Thursday 18/12/14 at 10.30am and 2pm. No tickets are required.

In the art area they have helped to make some of the props for the show using a variety of different materials. They also used different sized shapes to make their own snowmen and have been looking for Christmas treasure in the sand.

In the literacy area they continue to read lots of different Christmas stories and they told their own stories of Christmas Eve and Christmas day in their own houses. These stories are displayed in the writing area and in the cloakroom.

In the numeracy area they made a Christmas scene using many different shapes and colours, these are displayed on the wall.

They continue to enjoy healthy food in the snack area and had the opportunity to make star shaped peppermint creams this week, a yummy Christmas snack.

Batton down the hatches. The high winds made the outdoor area out of bounds for a few days. The outdoor equipment had to be weighted down to stop it blowing away. The children got physical in the softplay area instead and played Christmas games.

The lending library is now finished for this term. If you still have a book to return please do so this week. The library will resume in the new year.
