Parent Councils came into force on 1 August 2007.
The maximum size of membership is seven parents who will serve for a period of four years after which they may put themselves forward for re-selection if they wish.
The Parent Council at Muir Street Primary is well established and is fully committed to the school aims.
The head teacher and the local councillor for the school may attend all meetings of the council. They have the right to speak although not the right to vote.
The Parent Council’s rights and duties include:-
- supporting the work of the school
- representing the views of the parents
- consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest
- promoting contact between the school parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community
- fundraising
- taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff
- receiving reports from the headteacher and education authority and receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses
- improving home school partnerships and facilitating parental involvement
