Scottish Story Telling

Scottish Story Teller Gerry Durkin came to Kirkshaws today to tell some scottish stories and sing some songs. All of the children , from nursery to primary 7, have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in his interactive stories. Parents were also invited to join in the story telling fun. Some of the stories included ‘The Frozen Kingdom’ and the ‘Run-away Haggis’. The most popular songs were ‘The Dundee Ghost’ and ‘Have you seen a wee yo-yo?’ Denise, from Old Monkland’s Library, came along aswell to share information about the library services and give out some free gifts. The children also received some competition sheets to complete including a Katie Morag colouring-in and ‘design a book cover’. These should be returned to the school by Friday the 9th December to be judged.

Gerry will also be at Old Monkland Library this afternoon, Thursday the 1st December, from 3.30 – 4.30pm telling stories. Why don’t you go along and join in the fun!

Scottish week is coming up.

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day, Kirkshaws Primary School and Nursery Class will be undertaking a week long series of planned activities focused around a Scottish theme beginning on the 28th of November.

Do you have something you could do or bring in to help us during that week? Perhaps you can play the bagpipes or can dance the Highland Fling? If you think you can help please contact the school in the normal ways. Let’s work together to make this a Scottish Week to remember.
