Kirkshaws Primary School celebrated a Maths Week with the aim of providing opportunities for the children to experience maths in the ‘real world’, to bring maths alive, to be creative and to have fun! The teachers have taught their maths lessons in some very different ways. Here are some of the activities the children participated in.
Paralympic Hero Visit
On the 10th of September we we honoured with a visit from Airdrie born Angela McDowell, a multi medal winner at the 1988 South Korean Paralympic Games. She talked to us about how she developed her swimming skills despite her sight problems and how she went on to win over 200 medals in National, European and International championships as well as her 8 Olympic medals. She let some of the children wear her medals too. She was an inspiration to all of us. Thank you Angela for sharing your story with us.
Ahoy Me Hearties!
Kirkshaws Primary School was taken over on Thursday the 20th of September by a band of Pirates! Pupils within the school were invited to create a pirate hat to celebrate ‘International talk like a Pirate Day”. A special pirate menu was also on offer that day in the school canteen. The winner of the best hat won a micro scooter which was supplied by our catering services. Well done to everyone who took part. You all looked amazing – and very scary!

We have changed our award certificates this year. We now receive “Fantastic Class Teacher Awards” and “Awesome Classroom Assistant Awards” effort in our work, being a good Kirkshaws citizen and good behaviour and attitude. Here are some of our recent winners from Friday the 14th of September. Look out for our future winners.

Everyone enjoyed their special snack and got the opportunity to take lots of photographs – the mums and dads even had time for tea and cakes! Good luck to all of our children starting primary 1 after the school summer break and we look forward to all of our returners joining us again in August. We hope you all had a lovely time.
