2nd Day 1 Session of Tier 2 Training – Thurs 17th Feb

Another great training session was held at St Barbara’s Primary School Annexe in Muirhead on Thursday 17th February. This was Day 1 for the people taking the sessions 17th and 22nd Feb. The session looked mostly at using Glow Groups for Virtual Campus and Transition Projects but also had a quick look at Glow wikis.

14 staff attended from across the following schools:

  • Bellshill Academy
  • Brannock HS
  • Chryston HS
  • Greenfaulds HS
  • St Aidan’s HS
  • St Andrew’s HS
  • St Margaret’s HS

The participants had varying levels of familiarity with Glow from people who had only logged in before and classed themselves as non-users to those who are regularly using Glow for learning and teaching. However, all seemed to enjoy the training session. It was difficult at one point to get people to stop for lunch!

Some quotes from the evaluations will give you an idea of the experience for the participants:

I would like more help with uploading videos, creating discussions for particular classes, class tutorials via video links. I Would like to see how pupils can submit their work and how this can be monitored.

I felt that all the training was very useful . There was a good balance of discussion and hands-on . It was very helpful to have immediate access to help whan problems arose . The training has definately improved my confidence in using glow.

I certainly see much more use in Glow now that I have uploaded resources for pupils. I see it as a very useful tool for certificated classes but I will need to spend some time adapting it for S1-S2.

Here are some of the things participants are looking forward to doing using Glow:

Glow page for all of S1 and S2 to access resouces and homework. Learning Intentions for my own classes. Advanced Higher Graphic Communication resouces for self study.

Initially I would like to set up glow groups for each course within my my department and eventually to move towards a Virtual campus if possible.

Tier 3 support – call for information and dates

Tier 3 support planning has begun. There is a new page in the Glow Group calling for SMT and Main School Contacts for the project to post responses to a survey.

Tier 3 of the project is designed to be ongoing support delivered within schools by the national team/North Lanarkshire central team. The support involved needs to be specific to what would be most beneficial to each school involved. For example, individual teachers who have come along to Tier 2 training sessions may have individual projects they require support with.

It also needs to bear in mind that strategically in North Lanarkshire SMT from schools decided to focus on:

  • Virtual Campus style projects (Glow Groups set up to support pupil work outside of the classroom).
  • Transition Projects
  • Using Glow blogs for e-portfolios

You may want to have us help you work with pupils and also perhaps your primary colleagues. The follwoing document may prove useful in thinking about which projects you would like us to concentrate on as part of the support plan.

If it would help I am more than happy to come out and speak to schools to help them formulate plans and dates.

Cheers,

Ist Day 1 Session of Tier 2 Training – Thurs 10th Feb

The first of the groups of training days was held at St Barbara’s Primary School Annexe in Muirhead on Thursday 10th February. This was Day 1 for the people taking the sessions 10th and 17th Feb. The session looked mostly at using Glow Groups for Virtual Campus and Transition Projects but also had a quick look at Glow wikis.

We were delighted that 12 staff attended from across the following schools:

  • Brannock HS
  • Calderhead HS
  • Chryston HS
  • Greenfaulds HS
  • St Aidan’s HS
  • St Andrew’s HS
  • St Margaret’s HS

The participants had varying levels of familiarity with Glow from people who had only logged in before and classed themselves as non-users to those who are regularly using Glow for learning and teaching.

Some quotes from the evaluations will give you an idea of the experience for the participants:

I feel that the presentation was paced well and the delivery was great. I feel that there was a lot to take in, but it certainly has opened my mind to the capabilities that Glow can offer.

Excellent day that gave me a significant amount of help, ideas and food for thought.

Excellent day I came here rather unconvinced about glow but my understanding of the pages and ideas of what can be achieved is clearer

Course was realy fast paced but very helpful. Provided a great stimulus for developing my own materials – lots to think about!!

Thank you so much – all very clearly put and I was not made to feel stupid which I really appreciate!

What a great bunch of people came along and we look forward to working with you all in Tier 3 – take note, the other courses have a lot to live up to!

Cheers,
Karen-Ann

Tier 2 Training Finalised

The dates for the training are now finalised and it looks as though we have staff from all of the schools lined up against specific dates.

It will be a fast paced 2 days with lots to get through but it will act as a taster for what’s to come in the Tier 3 support sessions in each school. Remember that we can go back over anything that was covered in the Tier 2 sessions and spend time with individuals in Tier 3. We can also work with you and your classes to help take them through using Glow. More on Tier 3 to follow.

Tier 2 Training – New Dates

We have changed over some of the dates in our offering for Tier 2 training. They now comprise the following sessions:

Thurs 10th and Mon 21st Feb Thurs 17th and Tues 22nd Feb Fri 18th and Sat 26th Feb Thurs 24th Feb and Mon 28th Feb

It looks as though we now have final staff names and numbers for each of the sessions. Thanks to all the hard work going on with the school co-ordinators in identifying staff and managing to free them up to come along to the courses at this busy time of the year.

I’ll be sending out the full list of names to everyone involved and also getting in touch with the staff ahead of their training dates to ask them to complete a short pre-training task. Information will also be available in the Glow Projects in NLC Group.

Tier 2 Training

Thurs 10th and Mon 21st Feb Thurs 17th and Tues 22nd Feb Fri 18th and Sat 26th Feb Sat 19th Feb and Wednesday 2nd March

School Project co-ordinators have been signing their staff up to take part in training on the dates above. The first 2 groups of dates have proved the most popular so far.

We’re in the process of putting together the content for the repeated 2 day sessions and this will appear on this blog when it’s completed and agreed by both the Glow Team and the Central Team in North Lanarkshire.

I look forward to meeting you all at one of the training sessions.

Tier 1 – Strategy Sessions

Through a mixture of the original 2 day strategic meeting on 15th and 16th December, the local re-run version of this event on 17th Jan and with one school being visited separately, we have now completed the Tier 1 planning sessions for the North Lanarkshire schools.

These events have gone well with SMT from schools fired up and ready to go in terms of taking advantage of the Glow Project Programme on offer.

Unfortunately, due to school commitments Caldervale and St Ambrose have had to drop out of the project at this time. This leaves the schools involved in the project as:

Bellshill Academy Brannock

High School

Calderhead

High School

Chryston

High School

Coatbridge

High School

Drumpark School Greenfaulds

High School

St Aidan’s

High School

St Andrew’s

High School

St Margaret’s

High School

Almost every 1 of the remaining 10 schools has handed in their School Improvement Plans, their Tier 1 School and Staff Planning Forms and requested dates for Tier 2 Training. To remind people I will list these dates in a separate post.

It’s great to see the project widening out from the original SMT members with school staff names being put forward for the Tier 2 Training.
