Numeracy

In Chapelhall we follow the Curriculum for Excellence programme for numeracy and mathematics. The children follow through early, first and second stages of the curriculum and learn how mathematics is part of everyday life and its importance in society.  We use many resources to deliver this curriculum including Scottish Heinemann and T-Jay Mathematics.
Using the Smartboard, children can physically move the resources around and this helps their learning.

Numeracy Curriculum for Excellence Aims
Learning through mathematics enables children and young people to:
  • develop essential numeracy skills, including arithmetical skills which allow them to participate fully in society
  • develop a secure understanding of the concepts, principles and processes of mathematics and apply these in different contexts, including the world of work
  • have an understanding of the application of mathematics, its impact on our society past and present, and its potential for the future
  • establish firm foundations for further specialist learning, including for those who will be the mathematicians of the future.
Chapelhall Primary School endorses the active style of teaching where children participate in the process and learn from each other as well as the class teacher.
Here are Primary 6/7 working together with a partner to make 3D shapes of packages from nets.

The children place cubes into each side of the set and then add them together. They then write the sum on their whiteboards.
Well done Primary 1!
