Bags of Help

Tesco has teamed up with Greenspace Scotland to launch its Bags of Help initiative across Scotland. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

The public will now vote in store from 27 February until 6 March on who should receive the £12,000, 10,000 and £8,000 awards.

Eco News

In addition to the Eco Update Newsletter posted below we have some other developments in the Eco Committee this term!

  • The P6’s have finished training our new P5 Litter Squad so there is a new P5 Litter Squad Rota being put in place this month. They are all very eager and are doing a great job!
  • The last Rag Bag collection raised over £200 and we have received a £50 cheque from Grayshill Ltd. to help with our school garden fund.
  • The committee are busy planning what we are going to do for EARTH HOUR 2015. They hope to take an assembly and involve everyone in some fun activities on Friday 13th March.
  • The P6’s in Miss Mercer’s class have also been working closely with the Eco team as they have planted and are now monitoring the growth of some spring bulbs. This is part of a national “Edina Trust” Science Project. Mrs Gow has been working with a group of children measuring any growth.
  • Two pupils from the committee will be representing Eastfield in an Eco Group which starts on Friday morning in Redburn Primary.

Some exciting developments from the Eco Club this term!

Thank you!

A huge thank you to Mr Stewart and Mr Gilchrist for volunteering their time and skills to build the new shed.

It is much appreciated and will make working in the garden areas of the playground easier as well as providing much needed storage space.

Thank you again! 🙂
