We are learning about symmetry. Today, we used the play dough to make halves of a variety of shapes. Using mirrors we were then able to see the complete shape. It was tricky guessing what shape it was going to make. At the art table, we were also exploring symmetry whilst painting bear’s faces.
Today, we were very lucky to receive a visit from Mrs Li. Mrs Li told the children all about the celebration of Chinese New Year and the customs associated with it. The children listened really well to all the information from Mrs Li. They particularly enjoyed trying on the Chinese outfits.
As part of our ‘Winter’ topic, we are learning about hibernating animals. Over two days, we made hedgehogs from clay and used art straws for the prickles. On the second day we painted them. Have a look.
Today, the children were practising their hoop skills in the gym hall. We were rolling, twirling, jumping and hula-hooping. Have a look.
This week, the children went on a trip to the local post office There, they bought stamps and posted their own Christmas cards to their homes. Their families will be surprised when the post arrives.
This week, the children in the nursery have been conducting a science investigation. Over three days, the children tested cola, soapy water and tomato sauce, in order to find out which was best for cleaning dirty coins. We compared the results and the tomato sauce was the best.
After reading the story of The Gingerbread Man, the children used small world characters to retell the main events of the story. Some even created their own happier ending, where The Gingerbread Man escaped. Have a look.
On Friday, the fire brigade came to our nursery for a visit. The children were very interested to hear all about the role of the fire fighter and loved having a chance inside the fire engine. The best part was when we all got a chance to use the hose.
