digestion experiment
Our class done a digestion experiment. It was horrible what we were doing was putting bread and cola in a bag then mushing it up. We done the same only with water to see what would mush better.
Polish Pianist
In Calder Primary there was a polish musician called Martin in on the 4th of March. He taught us how to use our imagination and our voices. He played the piano very well and we joined in with our instruments.
He was very good with the piano and his own dramas. He also did dramas with us and helped us sing with our voices. He taught us about how to use our voices and make them HIGHER and lower.
He was very funny and interesting but a little scary. We had a good time learning with him.

Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme Open Fund – http://bit.ly/_2014_Cultural_Fund
A fund of £4 million is available and individual artists, community-led groups and arts organisations are invited to apply for awards ranging from £20,000 up to £300,000. This fund is a major component in the development of the nationwide Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme and aims to enhance the Games experience for Scotland’s communities, spectators and visitors, promoting the best of Scotland’s culture alongside that of the Commonwealth.
Cineschool festival 2013
Cineschool ‘Directions’, Film Education’s European Film Festival for schools, will take place from mid February until the end of March 2013.
There will be free screenings taking place UK-wide supported by online resources, as well as many in-cinema introductions and masterclasses.

A series of six twilight sessions aimed at experienced storytellers or those who have completed Starting with Stories 1 and 2, this course offers in-depth training in developing your own style of telling, crafting and selecting stories. Led by storyteller Ruth Kirkpatrick, whose extensive experience ranges from intimate community settings to the international stage, this course will offer practical insights, reflection, feedback and a chance to hone your storytelling expertise. Launch of the Scottish Education Awards

The Scottish Education Awards were launched on Monday 3 December by Michael Russell, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning. The awards celebrate the hard work and success in Scottish education. They recognise the achievements of people who dedicate their lives to children and young people and showcase the valuable work and innovation in learning environments across Scotland.
Nominations for the 2013 awards can be submitted from now until 22 February 2013. Please circulate and share this information with your networks. For more information visit the Scottish Education Awards website.

The Education Resource Service in North Lanarkshire exists primarily to support learning and teaching in educational establishments across the authority. This is done in a number of ways.
The ERS provides a range of resources from topic boxes to artefacts to DVDs and CPD. A catalogue is produced annually which details exactly what is available to borrow. ERS Brochure 2013
The team of Children and Young People’s Librarians support educational establishments across North Lanarkshire with all sorts of innovative extravaganzas. Encounters Cultural Festival 2012

Introducing you to the schools brochure for the Encounters Cultural Festival 2012. Booking opens on Monday 10th September and is open to educational establishments within North Lanarkshire. There is a huge variety of cultural and creative events which your pupils could attend – from author sessions, to dance events, to making your own comic book or drawing your own manga character, to watching film shorts, to hearing stories. All the events have curricular links to enable you to make the most out of these sessions.
Hopscotch Theatre Company at Glencryan School
Hopscotch Theatre Company visited Glencryan School as part of Eco Day. They presented a short sketch to the children followed by child-led activities including freeze framing, mime and taking part in an Eco chat show. The children thouroughly enjoyed the workshop and learned about a range of Eco-related issues in a fun, interactive way.
Creative Dance at Thornlie Primary
Creative Dance at Thornlie Primary
The children of Thornlie Primary welcomed the wonderful Rosina Bonsu for two days of creative dance workshops. All of the children participated in dance workshops and Primary 3 and Primary 5/6 worked closely with Rosina to choreograph a dance to raise awareness of Fairtrade. The dance was put together with drama and music and was performed for the whole school at our Fairtrade assembly.
Book Launch
After such success with Ruth. It was decided to invite a storyteller to our official book launch to share with parents. Although Ruth couldn’t make it herself she recommended Ron to us, who came along and did a great job!
