SSDs are dropping in price and I thought it was worth looking at the differences between these two types of backing storage
3.75MB of storage is the same as a couple of floppies. The video below shows the first hard disk based backing storage unit.
The drive is composed of 50 disks (100 writeable surfaces) each with 100 tracks.

A new technological enhancement to the hard drive could make this technology last a few more years. The big disadvantage with hard drive technology over solid state is speed. This advance could increase the speed of hard drives by hundreds of times.
