The caterpillars have arrived!

This morning a box was left in Claire’s butterfly group. Everyone wondered what it was! Claire opened the box and inside was a tub with small black wriggly creatures. ‘They’re caterpillars’ said Sam.

Claire was a bit concerned because the postman had left them on her front step and it was quite cold. But she needn’t have worried as when the box was opened they were quite wriggly. Nathan counted 5 caterpillars.’There’s one on the top look, it’s hanging down!’

We had a look at the instructions. It said that we must keep the cup warm- wrap it in a blanket overnight if it gets cold. We mustn’t take the lid off because that could let germs in or knock it over as that would really upset the caterpillars. We have to wait for at least 7 days for them to turn into cocoons. What will happen after that? Watch this space………
