Help your child get a head start in their career<\/strong><\/p>\nFoundation Apprenticeships are changing the way young people learn.<\/p>\n
Lasting for two years, they are available to pupils moving into fifth year and are taken alongside their other school subjects like National 5s or Highers as one of their subject choices.<\/p>\n
Young people working towards a Foundation Apprenticeship gain knowledge, skills and hands-on industry experience at college and with a local employer.\u00a0 It is an industry-recognised qualification set at SCQF level 6 \u2013 the same level of learning as a Higher.<\/p>\n
Why should your child choose a Foundation Apprenticeship?<\/strong><\/p>\nFoundation Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to broaden their options and get a taste of their potential career before they\u2019ve left school.\u00a0 With a Foundation Apprenticeship, when your child leaves school they will have developed the knowledge, skills and experience to:<\/p>\n
\n- have the option to apply for accelerated entry to a Modern Apprenticeship or entry onto a Graduate Apprenticeship;<\/li>\n
- progress through a college pathway to HNC \/ HND level and beyond;<\/li>\n
- make their application and personal statement for college or university stand out from the crowd; or<\/li>\n
- develop useful industry contacts and improve their job prospects after leaving school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Foundation Apprenticeships 2018\/2020<\/strong><\/p>\nSince they were first launched in 2014 Foundation Apprenticeships have been specifically developed in close consultation with employers to address skills gaps in key growth sectors. This means that your child would enter a career pathway where there is a real future.\u00a0 In 2018\/2019 Foundation Apprenticeships will be delivered in the following industry areas:<\/p>\n
\n- Social Services and Healthcare<\/li>\n
- Social Services: Children and Young People (Childcare)<\/li>\n
- Scientific Technologies<\/li>\n
- Engineering<\/li>\n
- Financial Services<\/li>\n
- <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
