Mass for the Installation of the Right Reverend Joseph A. Toal as Bishop of Motherwell
Cardinal Newman High School pupils attended alongside Mr Ross the Mass for the installation of the Right Reverend Joseph A. Toal at Our Lady of Good Aid Cathedral last night. Pupils David Ellis and Jennifer McGilvray were directly involved in this celebration as they participated within the Offertory Procession. We offer our prayers up to Bishop Toal in his new position, and fortunate also that he has decided to live in St Gerards RC Parish house.

S4 Work Experience Placement

Throughout the duration of this week, over 120 of our new S4 pupils will be out of school on their Work Experience Placement.

This is an extra week offered by North Lanarkshire Council, and the majority of placements have been independently sought out by our pupils.

Congratulations to each pupil for securing a placement!

Thankyou to our local businesses in supporting our pupils over the week!

All S4 pupils not on Work Experience must attend school throughout the week.

Game On Warburton’s Challenge

The Computing/Business faculty, in partnership with the Hospitality faculty, decided to create the ‘Game On Warburton’s Challenge’ for our joint S1 Enterprise course. The project ran from January to June 2014 and gave pupils the opportunity to create a new food product -using Warburton’s ingredients- that could be eaten at the Commonwealth Games. Pupils worked in teams to devise and cook a new recipe. The winning group from each class went through to represent their class at the final. Each group created a presentation stating the case for them to win the best new product idea.

The final was a large event with representatives from St Andrews Hospice, Education Scotland, the Scottish Federation of Food and Drink and NLC in attendance, we also had an S3 pupil DJing. The course, and final event, is a prime example of the cross-curricular focus, structured around a real-world example which meets all the aims of ACfE and engages and motivates learners.

Video of the final coming soon!
