Well done girls for your tremendous performance on Tuesday night! The overall winners were Christ the King Primary School but we did ourselves proud. Our Eco Committee put in a lot of effort to make our entry which was a video highlighting all of the work we do to make our school environmentally friendly. It was a great achievement to get to the final.

Airdrie Eco Schools Visit Calderbank
Today, we welcomed two children and their Eco coordinator from seven different local schools to walk around our school and see all of the hard work we’ve been putting into our nature garden and other aspects of Eco. Our Eco Committee were at the front door to meet and greet everyone as they arrived. The children took part in some den building, kindly assisted by Taylor, Jenna and Ashley-Anne. Later on we received a very informative talk from EDF energy about nuclear power.

Health Promoting Day
This morning the Lidl Health Factor visited Calderbank! The boys and girls enjoyed having the opportunity to choose ingredients and create their own smoothie. They also exercised so that they could see how their heart rate is affected. Enjoy trying out the healthy recipes in the free cookery book and make sure to spend your voucher in a Lidl store!
In the afternoon, three of our P7s were leaders in learning by sharing some of their new knowledge and skills in First Aid with the rest of the children. Thank you Callum, Jenna and Kelsey for the insight and thank you Mr Lamb for visiting to take our First Aid Learning Club.
Our wildlife garden
The children helped Alan Kain as he completed work to create the fence for our wildlife garden.
Woodland Walk
Our P4-7 pupils enjoyed a guided walk in our local woodland. Jackie, our Countryside Ranger accompanied us, teaching us about the biodiversity in our local environment.
New recycle bin
Our Bug Hotel
P1/2 have been busy collecting leaves, twigs and moss for our new bug hotel. Hopefully some insects and bugs will move in soon!
Visit to Recoverwaste
Members of our Eco committee and Pupil Voice group visited a local recycling centre. We toured the plant and learned all about the recycling processes they use.
Calderbank Community Clean Up
We had a wonderful morning down at the canal as the sun shone and the local community came out to support us.
Linton McBurnie, for Scottish Canals told us some interesting facts about the canals in our local area and helped us to be ‘responsible citizens’ by organising a litter pick along the banks of the canal.
A huge thank you to all of our parents and friends we came along today, your help and support is very much appreciated.
