Spotlight on Science

This month we take a look into the world of Science where he pupils in S1 have been studying solids, liquids and gases. Over the last few weeks they have also completed a ‘Scottish Heritage Project’ where they had to research and produce a leaflet/poster/newspaper article on a Scottish Scientist. Some good work was produced and is displayed around the department.

Science Club continues to be hugely popular and is one of the best attended lunch clubs. Members have built rockets from fizzy drinks bottles, burned metals, produced exploding cans, carried out chemical reactions where dramatic colour changes had been witnessed (even if sometimes the experiment failed!!) and carried out the coke and menthos mints reaction.

  1. The best things about Science have been getting to do experiments and having Miss Stirling as a teacher.

  2. I have most enjoyed the crystal experiment in Science and getting the opportunity to use a bunsen burner.

  3. The best thing I think we have done in Science is taking part in the Scottish project. It was really fun.

I also liked learning about particles.

  4. I enjoyed studying the ‘Matter’ topic because it let us do lots of fun experiments which I really liked.

  5. My favourite part of Science was learning about the water cycle and taking part in the Scottish project and finding out about scottish inventors.

  6. In Science we have been learning about solids, liquids and gases and about how it gets from one state to another. We went on to learn about the water cycle and all the steps that it takes. We also learned about diffusion and that heat makes things expand and cool things do the opposite.

  7. In Science we have learned about solids, liquids and gases. In this topic we learned about diffusion, the water cycle and many other things, like expansion and contraction.
