Last week, the school was delighted to welcome over 30 community partners to an event targeting S4-S6 leavers. Presenters from colleges and universities stood side-by-side with colleagues from business, industry and local training providers. They were all able to offer pupils of all abilities and aptitudes a comprehensive package of information regarding positive destinations for life beyond school. This training and information fayre was a first for Clyde Valley and the school hopes to build on the outstanding success of the afternoon by making this an annual event.

Senior pupils take the chance to chat with presenters during Clyde Valley’s first ever jobs and study fayre.

Congratulations to Lauren King of sixth year who was a finalist at the star-studded Sunday Mail Young Scot Awards ceremony last week. Held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and the Scottish Exhibition Conference Centre’s Clyde Auditorium, the event was attended by a host of celebrities. They had all come along to toast the 40 young finalists from across the length and breadth of the country, all of whom had given outstanding community service.

Clyde Valley nominated Lauren for her unselfish work as main carer  for her younger brother, Ryan, and for her work as a champion of the cause of young people, especially in her role as an elected member of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Lauren was one of three national finalists in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category and was thoroughly deserving of her moment in the glitz and glam highlight if the ceremony presented by Radio Clyde DJ, Romeo.

Up-and-coming boy band Little Eye from Glasgow, were very welcome visitors to the school just before the holiday. The lads played a full set to pupils in S2 and S3 and hosted a highly entertaining question and answer session with both groups of pupils. The young people loved Little Eye’s music and were massively impressed when they learned of how well the band has been doing to date. All of the band members presented a very strong message to all of the pupils and that was to make the best use of the massive talents they believed all young people have and to avoid totally any form of drug or other illegal substance that they knew would destroy that potential.

The lads thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Clyde Valley and sharing their thoughts and dreams and music with our pupils.

Prior to the Easter holidays, all of our first year pupils were busy skipping their hearts out in a variety of styles as they participated in the sponsored ‘healthy heart skipathon’ initiative run by the British Heart Foundation. Mr David Somerville, of the PE department who coordinated the event, was delighted not only by the enthusiasm of the young people taking part, but also by the record-breaking total they raised.

In this annual event, last year’s first year edged the £900 mark for the first time and Mr Somerville was thrilled when this year’s group crept slightly ahead by some £20 to raise a whopping £939.60, which has now been donated to the British Heart Foundation.

 Kira Melville (£35) and Ryan Boyd (£42) were just two of the first year pupils who raised substantial amounts of money through the ‘skipathon’ and they gathered to send the cheque off to the British Heart Foundation.

The school is delighted to confirm Jordan Dunnachie will be Dux of Clyde Valley for this, our 20^th anniversary session. We are equally pleased to announce the runner-up prize, the Proxime Accessit Award, will be presented jointly to Karen Perry and Sarah Thomson. All three pupils are in fifth year and are thoroughly deserving of these top academic awards that will be presented to them at prize giving on Monday 24 June.
